If national politics were left up to Corbin Middle School students, John McCain would be the next president — in a landslide.

CMS Principal Ramona Jaynes said students had been studying the presidential election this week, and seventh graders were completing a week-long unit on the election.
On Monday, students heard campaign speeches by Corbin High School students who dressed and played the parts of Barack Obama, John McCain, Joe Biden and Sarah Palin — complete with secret service agents on the sidelines.
Students also completed a survey naming which national issues were most important to them. Students said they were most concerned about the economy, and placed education as their second priority.
CMS’s election results were on par with mock student elections across the county. This week, Schwartz has also taken her mock election to Pleasant View Elementary, Boston Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary and Corbin Primary, where students as young as second graders voted for president.
“McCain won in every school,” she said.
