So what, exactly, is the legitimate purpose of having it sound-activated?

Wouldn't that make it useful for setting up in a room as a security monitor ?  You wouldn't want it running constantly, and if the noise of someone opening a door is enough to activate it, it seems you would just be recording when there was actual activity.  Otherwise, you get an hour-or-so long still shot before using up the microSD.

Great way to find out who's snooping around your gun safe or personal pc while you're at work.
