SCOTUS rules for religious freedom
« on: June 26, 2017, 01:29:54 PM »
Details at the link. Short story, Missouri law singled out churches as ineligible for certain state bennies it awarded to other non-profits. In the case at hand, a church in Columbia, MO would have qualified for a state program to rubberize playgrounds, but it was too religiousy for the state, or something.

Seems obvious that religious freedom means the government doesn't treat churches like step-children, so that the Salvation Army thrift store gets less consideration than Goodwill.

We now await some ominous warnings about royal shillings.

Odd that Missouri, a firmly Bible belt state, would have tried that crap.

Ever the cynic, I'm going to wager a guess that the law was originally targeted at depriving one particular sect's less-than-religious/public/non-profit's functions of .gov money. While other sects with better political connections had adequately and legally "air gapped" their functions.

Back-channel internecine religious fiscal battles essentially.

I promise not to duck.

Even SCOTUS confuses "freedom of religion" with "freedom FROM religion"
