The RCMP took guns from evacuated homes. The locals are not pleased.
"This is the reason the U.S. has the right to bear arms."

‘It’s just like Nazi Germany,’ says resident
It’s just like New Orleans

The guns will be returned to owners after residents are allowed back in town and they provide proof of ownership, Topham added.
You mean until they provide proof of registration?
I'll refrain from adding comments about suggested actions by any of the townspeople smart enough to have kept their firearms with them during evacuation.

Proof of ownership? Here's a bright idea: Give the guns back to the residents of the addresses you took them from. How does that not work?

You think they kept track of where they took em from? I'd wager they didn't

I wondered about that, too. If they didn't, that needs to be exposed.

Were warrants issued?
If not, does Canadian law permit forcible entry into temporarily unoccupied private homes without a warrant in order to search for valuables of a certain sort?
Or is it a case of "Screw you - today the law is whatever we say it is!"

Were warrants issued?
This is Canadia. Are they even needed?

They didn't gather up TV's or Stereo's or Cars?

Shhhh! You weren't supposed to know about that.

For future reference...
Disaster occurs.
Residents leave homes, securing doors and windows behind them.
Police fear looters will steal guns from homes with no outward evidence of containing guns..
Police break into secured homes (all homes? homes that were on old registry?) to collect guns so looters won't get to them, leaving houses unsecured and easier to loot.
Profit?

Isn't that pretty much the way it works here now unless you have the money to hire a tilecrawler to make it otherwise?
