I used to work with a guy that had a Metallica ringtone on his phone. It would ring about fifty times in one eight-hour shift, and it would come blasting out when you least expected it. DARKNESS! IMPRISONING ME! ALL THAT I SEE! BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!

Is that Trujillo shopping with Hetfield? "Welcome to Metallica, let's hit Armani!"

ROFL, never seen that before

Not really my cup of tea most of the time. This is my favorite Irish woman singer at the moment. The video scares my kids, though...

Huh, I like that Moloko song, visuals are strange, but neat!

Yup.  That's why I love Metallica.  They're so hardcore . . .

If im going to listen to silly pop music (sometimes its appropriate as background music, after all), I listen to silly pop music from other countries. When it comes to poppy dance music and rap, you either cant understand the lyrics or they are so asinine that it doesnt matter if you dont speak the language.

As background music, silly Korean pop is 10x better/catchier than America equivalent.

I think most young people like classic rock. I know that is what I usually listen to probably 90% of the time when I'm in the car. Although I did grow up listening to it because of my dad, stuff like the Moody Blues, ELP, Led Zepplin, but I also listen to other things like swing, big band, jazz, ska, 80s, country, bluegrass, rockabilly, psychobilly, classical, 50s, etc, etc.

One thing I found interesting is when watching an episode of the Twilight zone. I don't remember what the episode was about just this scene. In it this young kid is listening to some fast jazz and this old man gripes about it and turnes it to an older station that plays a slower style of jazz. I started laughing when I saw that because that is really the same stuff we see happening now with music and the older generation. I wonder what new music will come out in the future when I'm some grandpa and the kids play what is popular.

In what kind of situation would you want that as background music?  ???

But I like foreign pop sometimes myself.

I think most young people like classic rock.

I guess I'm young by this forum's demographic (27). I. Can't. Stand. 99%. Of. Classic. Rock. I Refuse to listen to the radio cause there is No good station here in the Raleigh area. The only rock station in the area mixes that classic crap in with new s**t.  I don't even think the antenna is hooked up to the headunit in my truck.

Last time I was at my parents house (near the coast of NC) I was amazed to hear Pantera on the radio. [Pantera is the first band I ever saw live, I was 12.]

Oh yeah, I listen to some rap.

Pantera still sounds better on the 12" getting 600 watts in the truck or the two 15"s getting 660 watts each in the house.

I guess I'm going on a rant now but what irritates me more than hearing rap out of some vehicle is hearing s**t highs. I don't care if your bass hits if I can hear your highs clipping across the parking lot. Here's a clue- the only thing anyone should be using out of their stock radio is the hot on ignition wire. Do Not use the amp in your headunit.

Rap has ended for me.

It started with the "club rap" and now its this really stupid combination of Pop and Club Hip Hop...

"Shorty just text me, says she want to sex me
LOL smiley face, LOL smiley face
Shorty sent a twitpic saying come and get this,
LOL smiley face, LOL smiley face"

Somebody Kill me if I have to hear that stupid song one more time... ON TOP OF THAT!

Miley Cyrus  -
why is having an immature little-girl sound quality the it thing for pop stars??? Combine that with irritating lyrics and a one octave range, and you have the musical equivalent of eating at McDonald's every night.

Party in the USA... "moving my hips like yeah"  BLECH....

I don't even turn on the radio anymore just Talk stations no more "rap"

Sorry Rant off....

hmmm... i have a few rap/r&b songs on my Ipod. some TLC, Outkast, Ludicris and nelly. most of its stuff i have corisponding memories. TLC was a favorite when i was younger, and the other newer stuff was playing at the clubs when i did that thing.

i dislike Gangsta rap more because of the message invloved in most cases then anything. i mean, do you really think its a good thing to listin to someone bragging about 'bustin a cap in that n-word" ? personally i think thats pretty gross.

there are some good rap songs out there, some funny ones, songs with neat lyrics and good messages. the rest though, blah.

also, i'm 25. my bf in HS was obsessed with Cream. I listined to the ramones, x-ray spex and the dickies. i know classic rock, 80's/90's rock alt and 70's glitter and prog, better then i know whats on the radio now. my dad listins to more new rock then i do.
i think people who dont' really care to much about music tend to listin to one or two genres (usually the ones they grew up with) and those of us who HAVE to have something to listin to like myself listin to a lot of it from all periods and genres.

Also, the only rap piece I like (because it's more an exercise in technique and creativity than anything else):

Rap did not start in clubs.

I was trying (unsucessfully) to say that the begining of the end of rap music started with as I call
it club rap.

I've listened to quite a few foreign bands and singers and find myself listening mostly to J-pop and a little J-rock lately.
J-pop and J-rock is different from American pop and rock because most of its roots are from Blues the like.
I haven't been much into Korean music, but I have to say that I like Wonder Girls more than Girls Generation.
But neither are on my playlist.
