I stumbled across this party recently:http://americanconservativeparty.org/
If they can hold the lunatics at bay, they might have something...
Hard to take a movement seriously when their website barely works and reads like it was written by a drunk 12 year old.

This is the part where you are accused of only wanting slick packaging.  Remember, you are only allowed to discuss the substance.  Complaints about marketing style make you an enemy of the revolution.

True. However, I doubt I could do better myself, so I don't feel qualified to critique the packaging. With luck, or perhaps drive, they'll get a better web designer. Also, it didn't look like that, the last time I saw it.

Can we stop the perennial pissing match about wookie suits for five minutes?  A man can't post a topic in this forum without some jackass jabbering about how much better life would be if so-and-so were president, followed Immediately by some other jackass blithering about how the first jackass is a baby-killing, wookie-suit-wearing, pot-smoking holocaust denier.

Enough!  We get it!  Somebody open another forum so the "libertarians" can duke it out.

Now, as for the actual topic of the thread, does anybody know who voted which way?  I'm on my phone, and the link doesn't render right.

I have no allegiance to the republican party.

Most people would label me as a conservative.

However, more than anything, my political philosophy is Federalism. I want the federal government doing as little as possible and EVERYTHING ELSE back to states and localities.

That way, if you want to screw up your own state with whatever foolish ideas you have (social security, "universal" healthcare, gay marriage, abortion, inter alia), you are free to do so. At least my state can avoid your fate.

Why can't we bring back the Federalists? (Or, rather, from American history, the ironically named "Anti-Federalists")

This ^^^, and more of it, would be welcome.

The "wookiee problem," troofers, and various whack-jobs are a problem for the "Big L" libertarians, no doubt.  They'll never get traction with those types as their face to the the locals.  They need a libertarian Wm F uckley to read them out of the movement until they can grow up.

Thing is, Big L doctrine is as out of phase with the COTUS as the RINO and Democrat parties.  It is just another utopian scheme, at its heart, with no regard for the COTUS or American traditions.

An interesting notion. I've heard people say it before. Can you elaborate on this?

Which parts of the Constitution do you think does libertarianism contradict?

Give me a flavor of libertarianism.  Big L Libertarian Party is the obvious one, but there are other strokes for different libertarian folks.

Thats just an excuse for little-"l" libertarians to avoid the party.

It is a good excuse.

It is also a sign of the maturity of the party and answers the question, "Can it hold itself together long enough to run a serious campaign or is it a plaything of dorm-rats & basement-dwellers?"

Minachism is the notion that the government should intervene in stuff as little as possible, while still punishing force or fraud. Activities that do not directly constitute force or fraud should be legal. We may have differences as to how far we should go with this (some people are more moderate than others), but this is the general vibe.

So what if the wookie-suit wearers are a vocal part of the party?
The Theocrats are a vocal part of the GOP, and yet many of you continue to vote (R) and vocally oppose theocracy.
I hear alot of griping and moaning about how the GOP is allowing and fully participating in the rape and pillage of this country.  If Bob Barr admitted he wore a wookie suit on the weekends, I'd still vote for him.
They are the best bet left.  I for one and shifting any support I gave the stupid party to the wookie party.

It's easier to poke fun at troofers in wookie suits than to do anything about it.

Chris
It illustrates apoint, though.  The Libertarian Party can't seem to figure out why it's still a fringe element in American politics.  Until they can understand what makes 'em fringe, they have no hope of overcoming it.  So, until they can understand why they're fringe, I have no interest in joining them.

I don't have a problem with libertarians joining the Republican Party.  I have a problem some of the nuttier libertarian ideas, but don't confuse opposition to those ideas with opposition to having libertarians within the Rep Party.

Anyway, do we have any idea how long it'll take for the Supreme Court to yank this representative away from DC?

Oh, and I've got two words to say about the LP:
Bob Barr.
Not exactly a wookie suit wearing troofer.

This being the guy who wrote a letter to the military telling them to clamp down on witches serving in uniform, as well as trying to muck with Defense Authorization Bills to prevent any pagan activities from occurring on DoD property.  Not exactly a poster child of the "freedom loving" types.

You do realize (not that I am an LP fan) that Bob Barr had changed his position on lots of issues?

and of course barrs change vis a vis pot laws has made him a hero in the libertarian camp.   thats an image it would do well to shake  being known as the wake and bake party is not the path to big sucess.  sometimes i wonder if the libertarians really want to suceed. so much of their identity is wrapped up in being the outcast one

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Seems like a win to me.  The DC seat will be temporary (because it will have to get shut down by the supreme court) but gun rights in DC will be restored.

I don't disagree with the people of DC having some representation but one needs to go through the process of amendment to do such things.
