White, Catholic, Irish were brought to North America as slaves a good 10 years before the first African slave was dragged onto a boat headed this way.  Mostly children between 6 and 12, plus some older females  to serve as "mothers" to the broods of Hell's spawn.  (Breeding age males were either "conscripted" into the various armies roaming around Europe at the time or left at home as less-than-serfs to work the lords' fields till they dropped of starvation and/or exhaustion.

Why do we not hear about reparations for the Irish?  Seriously, even though it would just be offering free drinks to a drunk, don't they deserve their "fair share"?

Then there's the whole Black African American reparations thing itself.  I figure my share is somewhere between $.15 and $0.25.  Picture this - I walk up to the first Black African American (are the Brown African Americans going to feel pissed for being left out?) I see and put a quarter in their hand.  Some SJW is going to excoriate me when all I wanted to do was pay my share of what Dead White People did to Dead African People.  Is that fair?  Is it just?  Why should I get blamed for starting a race where when all I wanted to do was square things?

While the quarter itself is no big thing everything that follows just does not seem worth it.

stay safe.

hell, I know I had ancestors with slaves. Had family on both sides of the war... actually, probably on both sides of the revolutionary one, too. Maybe even the French-Indian War. And we won't even get into the guy who got Geronimo drunk and then signed a peace treaty with him.  :P
and the other side was a bunch of Vikings who rampaged across Europe.

Yet, somehow, despite my family history of thieving, warring and slaving, I highly doubt I would get any satisfaction out of paying money I don't have to pay to someone to whom I owe absolutely nothing.

We can test this.  I have Apache ancestors.  I'll send you my address, and you can send me a check, and then tell everyone how you feel.

I guess I'll be the only to admit that I have no idea which of my ancestors came over when, or who they did or did not own, or for which causes they fought, prior to about WWII. Grandpa never talked about his time in the CCC.

Through my dad's side I have direct ancestry to the Mayflower pilgrims.  My mom's side were mostly German (and some Irish) immigrants post-Civil War.  I honestly have no idea if any of my ancestors owned slaves or not.

If somebody wants to give of their own money to "reparations" that is their business.  I don't really care.  But as mentioned, the trillions in welfare that have gone mostly to the descendants of slaves has proven that handouts don't actually help.  So not only would it be morally egregious to steal from what little wealth I've managed to accumulate to pay reparations, it wouldn't actually accomplish any of the stated goals other than to impoverish (temporarily since I have the temperament to just get on with life and succeed regardless) people like me.

Reparations to people I've never meet, have not harmed, for injury done to those who are now dead by those who are now dead?

Hmmm...  I think I could scrounge up about $3.50.

The other problem with reparations is, who are they given to?

Let's take Chris Rock's million dollars per person and say we're going to pay that out. To whom? To every black adult? To every black man woman and child? How many times? Because if you created "reparation day" - let's say it was April 15th, and gave every living black person their million dollars, what happens on April 16th?

Because the next day a couple thousand (I'm ballparking) black babies will be born. So they get nothing? Why? Is the cutoff just the people who want to "get theirs now"? I guarantee that thirty years after reparation day, there will be an outcry about the racism and unfairness of giving reparations to a past population, but not giving any money to the current generation.

Or are the people pushing reparations suggesting that every black person born in the US (even those born to recent immigrants or those who immigrate after reparation day) should be given their million (or whatever) in perpetuity?

You all are missing the point. According to the cultural marxists, all white men owe all black men. Regardless of actual family history, slavery and colonialism is the original sin that infects the white man.

You're all guilty. GUILTY!

So the women and children are not included?

Can we also wait until most of the black men kill each other? (which apparently seems to happen a lot)

About 1/4 of my maternal line was in the New World at that time.  My paternal line was in Virginia since before we thought up the whole (African) slavery thing. Met lotsa black people with my surname. Guess what I owe them? Nada. I think great, great, great grandfather is the closest one could come to pointing out a slaveowner. But just to make sure I get paid if this happens one ancestor left his established, successful hotel in Alexandria to move to West Virginia to be free. And by free I mean shack up with his black housekeeper. Hey West Virginia peeps, I know what your forefathers did last summer.  =D

A few years back, a former soldier (PLL clerk) got on FB and started up with the reparations and "We were promised 40 acres and mule !!!"  BS.   He had had issues with the law, was living in section 8 housing, on welfare, and getting EBT, etc....

I asked him to tote up what he had received in .gov assistance over the past few years and to see if it was greater then $90,000 (which was the average going price for 40 acres of farmland (~$85k) and mule (~$5k).

To which I then pointed out that GEN Sherman, expected those new landowners to use that mule to make the land just given, productive.  So it's now time to get out and get behind that plow, since you "got your 40 acres and mule in cash and other bennies"....

Hell, the Japanese-Americans that got screwed over by the WWII internment camps have way more justification for demanding reparations than any African-American.

At a time when the ancestors of SOME black people currently living in the USA were being oppressed by slavery, my ancestors were in Eastern Europe being oppressed by cossacks.

I don't owe today's blacks a thing . . . but maybe I should contact Valdimir Putin and demand compensation from him? (Wonder how far I'd get with that . . .   )

Some of them.
There was/is a sentiment that it was a bad idea. Even amongst some Japanese.  Not many were confused that it was about justice as opposed to salving some folks group conscience
