Just like hippies, the hipster is dead.
Google fu says that... hipsters are now called yuccie (s), or "young urban creative,"
Get with times, man. :)
-
Young, urban creative - you've probably never heard of it.
-
Otherwise known as a hipster.
-
"Jerry, am I a 'hipster doofus'?"
-
Is that like Gucci or Yucky?
-
I take it to confuse "yuccie" with "yuppie" is frowned upon?

Yuppies are so 1980s

Dude, as a "geriatric millennial", so am I.

Average hipster comes into my store...
"I have a super dupermobile."
My thought: "Oh, you poor dumb bastard."
"I'm special because of my dupermobile."
"Sure thing, so let's sell you the $20/gallon antifreeze that it requires, rather than the $10/gallon stuff you can use in a 20 year old Corolla."
"I require the special parts."
"Sure thing - I can order them from Europe. They'll be here in a month or so."
"You are too stupid to understand my car, so I will give you part numbers."
"Wow... This part number cross-refs to a frickin' Peugeot... Guess someone's google-fu was weak. Let's order it anyway, because the guy is starting to turn purple..."
-
"Young urban creative"? I am in the "Old rural realistic" category.
-
Oh, wait... I forgot about the $40/litre stuff that some Very Special cars will require.
Don't buy those cars.

What are these young urban creatives creating aside from new and novel ways of being a pain in the ass?

I live right next to Oregon. I guarantee that hippies aren't dead. The "new hipsters' might make it to Idaho from San Fran and Portland and Seattle at some point, but right now we still have the beardy hipsters, brewing their stupid triple IPAs.
-
Has the word “groovey” been outlawed yet? I still use it on occasion and the hipsters look at me weird…
-
My OP was to be in jest.
I actually despise the term "Hipster" that folks use to describe what we have termed hipsters, because it should define someone who is unique and doesn't follow the norm, as in terms of fashion and taste. I see nothing unique when there now groups of folks called hipsters.
Also, they haven't ruined anything, they just outspent the other groups in buying what they want and business follows the money.
I guess if you want your way, you're going to have to get everyone on your team to outbreed and outspend everyone.
I know my parents and grandparents were WTF about Gen X when I/we was becoming an adult and into my working career.

*snort* You don't get anymore cred as you are also a "geriatric millennial" a.k.a. Gen X lite.

Thankfully! I really don't identify with them culturally at all.

Anyone use the term Beatnik anymore

The "G" is for "Walter".

Even though there's no single stolid definition of a Beatnik this one seems to fit many people I see today
The philosophy was basically beat counterculture, anti materialism, anti-capitalist and anti-authoritarian, who remarked the importance of improving the interior of each beyond the material possessions and rules imposed by the system. They attached great importance to sexual freedom and drugs as assistant inner exploration.

I went through all those "categories" without realizing I was in a category. I just did stuff my way.
You could say I survived Pearl Harbor since I was alive then and still am.but that joke falls flat nowadays.
Can I go to the bathroom now?
