It was predicted that the Conservatives would win, but I don't think anyone predicted just how badly they'd thrash the Jeremy "Stalin was a Conservative" Corbyn's Labor Party.

It was such a bloodbath that there are widespread and growing calls for Corbyn to resign, and he's already said that he won't be leading the party in the next election.

Boris now has a clear majority, picking up 47 seats, while Labor lost 59 seats, including apparently quite a few to the Scottish National Party. The Conservatives also lost big in Scotland; I think I heard that they now only have one MP from Scotland.

And, the SNP leader is starting to crow about forcing a second independence referendum... I don't understand why the Scots who want independence don't take a page out of the American history book and... oh, wait... the most powerful weapon they have is a bagpipes... never mind.

I also saw last night that the Conservatives took a seat that had been Labor's since that seat was established in 1950.

Johnson is saying that this is an obvious mandate from the voters to GTFO of the EU.

And, now the EU is apparently gearing up to play another round of hardball with the Brits.

Going to be an interesting couple of months on the far side of the pond!

It's said you can vote yourself into socialism but you have to shoot your way out.
It's starting to look like the same may be true of the EU.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Jesus... The Conservatives took Tony Blair's old seat...

Which had been held by a Labor Party MP since... 1935...

This is all Trump's fauilt!!!!!!!!

It looks like Boris has also laid down the law regarding a concrete time for Brexit, as I believe he said, "No ifs ands or buts."

I'd like to see other countries take after Britain and say "Buh-by" to the EU. I find it interesting that every single one of my German relatives, regardless of politics, rails against the EU and bureaucrats telling them what kind of vacuum cleaner they can buy. It seems a common theme, but the continental European countries seem entrenched in the disaster that is the EU.

Winston Churchill was a HUGE proponent of what he called the United States of Europe. He saw a lot about the United States to be envied and copied.

But I really wonder how he would have felt about the massive bureaucracy that's risen out of the EU.

Hell, the original version of the EU constitution, which was rejected, was 560 pages long.

The EU constitution that came about as a result of the Lisbon Treaty? 3,000 pages and written in such a form that not even lawyers could figure out what it meant. And it's not passed, either.

Essentially, the EU is constitutionless, which means that the bureaucracy is growing exponentially because there's no framework for resolving new issues other than a new influx of bureaucrats.

The German (and most of the rest of the continent's) politicians LOVE the EU, because it allows them to enact the things they want to do, but can blame it on something they willing signed their sovereignty over to out of their control.

Apparently the SNP is very pro EU. They want independence from the UK so they can go back to the EU.

I wonder how they'd like a hard border with the rest of the island, though...

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon is really beating the Indyvote2 drum HARD, demanding that Johnson not stand in the way of another referendum.

Which begs the question...

Say they did have another referendum, this time fueled by wanting to stay in the EU... and they lose again... what then?

Obviously they think they have a better chance at gaining independence, but it was a pretty substantial "Stay" vote over "Go" in 2014...

Makes you wonder who would they always blame when things don't go their way if Putin wasn't around.

Putin is the mad genius puppet master while they consider Trump too much of a clueless idiot to be anything but a puppet.

So apparently Biden has come out and said that Boris Johnson is what happens when the other party goes too far left, and warned that the same is likely to happen here with Trump if the Dems go to far left.

I am a little surprised he had that much coherent thought left in him, and curious how his party will take that particular bit of admonishment.  Just from what I've seen on the internet of the twitterati and the Gang of [however many it is now], I suspect that "You folks are too scary, you need to vote for the old white man, or the worse old white man will win" is not a great soundbite for the 2020 primary season.

I don't think anyone does savage political commentary like the British...

This is an absolute takedown summary of the election: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-7790961/RICHARD-LITTLEJOHN-wanted-Peoples-Vote-got-one.html

And Labor is REALLY turning their knives on Jeremy Corbyn... Such a wonderful thing to see... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7791905/People-didnt-trust-country-Ex-Labour-MP-Anna-Turley-blasts-Jeremy-Corbyn.html

Great article. This resonated:

It also served as a timely reminder that there is life outside the Westminster bubble, that social media is not the real world.

Our own commies may be learning the hard way that Twitterverse is not the universe. Much like Kamala Harris, who could do no wrong in CA, learned that she didn't get the same free ride on the national stage, the rest of the D commies may be learning the hard way that they spent too much time playing to the twitter crowd, and not enough to the real world.

And I added another word to my vocabulary - "gurning" - as in "gurning gargoyle" which was used in reference to John Bercow, the British ex-Speaker who is now a pundit on Sky News.
