Title: Gunsafe door?
Post by: Guest on November 23, 2005, 12:59:16 AM
I'm just curious as to how difficult it would be to just attach the door of a gunsafe to a cabinet. Maybe almost 3' wide and 60" tall, with a working locking mechanism. See, I can build a really sturdy cabinet to hold my guns out of 2x4s and lumber, but I'd like to have the door on it. Y'know, for appearances.

Unless it's bolted down, won't the front (door) be too heavy for the cabinet to stand upright?

As for the difficulty factor, I don't know.

*actually, this is gun related so you might post it on the main gun boards that you're on.

American Security makes a unit that will do exactly what you are suggesting.

WOW, I don't think my house frame could support that type of weight!  What gets me through is that the door is fire resistant but if you just replace a normal door with the safe door, does it really matter that it's fire resistant?

Good grief, the shipping container itself weighs 220 lbs?!? What are they packing it in?

If you are goign to buy one, you might as well build a room out of reinforced concrete to go with it.

Blackburn,

Why not make it look like a closet wall?  Out of sight, out of mind, and all that.  It might be cheaper, too.
