And vandals strike the BogieTrailer...
« on: October 16, 2007, 12:10:26 PM »
Didn't notice it until this morning. Somewhere between Knob Creek and this morning, vandals peeled off two stickers - one "Anyone But Hillary 2008" that a friend gave me a coupla years ago, and a "Vote Anyone But Hillary" that I printed fresh this year. I can tell you that they worked at the older sticker, since the vinyl tends to get a little stiff... They didn't get the stickers on the side.

I'm sure they felt justified. Why do democrats have no morals?

If you thought they were likely to do that, you should have smeared silver nitrate in vaseline on the stickers before retiring each night.  grin

God knows no one ever had an anti-war or anti-Dubya bumper sticker vandalized, right?

Print a BIG sticker with something like "I used to have some better stickers but a gutless liberal peeled them off in spite.  So much for free speech."  Plaster it conspicuously on the trailer.

Do that, make up some of the old ones, and do the nitrate stuff.

Sunday it felt a little better, but it was quite irritated from me rubbing it.

reminds me of a story here not too long ago.  Someone vandalized a billboard for a local radio station that had Rush Limbaugh's face on it.  Last I heard, they were planning on putting it back up with the caption "the show the left doesn't want you to hear."

I thought Vandals were only in Europe (or used to be).  Strange that they would attack your trailer.  Smiley

Bogie Sir,

My first thought was, before I read the conclusion of your tale, was that someone admired those stickers so much they were attempting to steal them for use on their own vehicle.  Not that it would be any better if such were the case, but I hope that amuses you.

The new one came off in one piece. I can guarantee you that the old one came off in pieces - sun does that, regardless.

At least they were neat about it - they new ones will go up without any problems!

They saved you the trouble of using a hair dryer and isopropanol to get the old sticker off prior to putting the replacements on.

Silver nitrate would be nice. I might lean more toward tetraethyl lead if I were petty and vindictive.

It turns your hands black.

Could also use a whole spate of other chemicals, but none would be so clear and unassuming as AgNO3 Smiley

Why silver nitrate?

It turns skin a harmless, but diseased-looking black permanently until that layer of epidermis is replaced, which can take months.  grin

Some investigators used to use it to catch someone who tried to open something they shouldn't, smeared it on a file cabinet handle or the like, usually mixed into a vaseline base to make it stay on the surface and stick to skin.

So ... I guess that you got your van fixed and that it survived the trip, since you are whining about missing bumper stickers Huh?

Yup... Pretty much - They did both sides of the rear axle, and it was still making some noise, so they did the pumpkin.

Ouch.

But it's quiet now, and I should get another hundred thou out of it.

You just might want to take that whole rig (loaded as for a trip) to a scale and get it weighed (each axle separately so you know what the rear van axle is carrying).

Have you ever blown any rear tires ...?

Nope. No blown rear tires (at least while I've owned it).

I generally try to run about 330 pounds tongue weight, and have a minimal amount of stuff in the back of the van (this trip I had some rolled up posters, bedding, etc.).

I've removed the rear seat and captain's chairs from the van, and there's a full-size futon on the floor in the back.

That doesn't sound too bad then.

I just know that a lot of people overload vehicles without realizing it.

Why do democrats have no morals?

Because they're too busy shoving their agendas down our throats to listen, reason or otherwise carry on any two way debate.  Ever notice how a liberal ALWAYS wants you to listen to their point of view while they simultaneously refuse to even allow you to speak your point of view.

BTW, ever change the oil in the diff.  Most people don't even know what a differential is.  I do, lockers and gears are expensive, oil is cheap by comparison.

At least it was not tagged with spray paint, stickers can be replaced.

Thanks for reminding me to call about getting a rear diff cover to replace the rotted out leaky one. I think Ferd is using synthetic in them. The goo coming out smells / looks nothing like the GO I remember. Clear fluid as a matter of fact.
How many of you know GO was originally fish oil? That's what gave/gives it it's characteristic smell.

Hypoid oil is just nasty anyway.  Nothing else in the world smells like it.

if you have fish oil in your rear axle, it must be a limited slip

at least it's not purple  grin
