Oklahoma's Senator Coburn to resign
« on: January 16, 2014, 11:11:06 PM »
Senator Coburn has announced his resignaton.
He was one of the better less bad politicians we've had.
He's had a rough go of late. He is fighting prostate cancer and recently lost his son in a plane crash.

The way it works here his seat will be filled at the next regular election meaning that both of our senate seats will be up for grabs this cycle.

He was an entitled ass that thought the rules of mere mortals did not apply to him.  He might have been less bad than some.  I'll give him that.

It's happened before http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma's_2nd_congressional_district.

My 3rd line boss from work is running for a state slot vacated by guy* running for Inhofe's seat.

*Marty Quinn. My state congressional district is just north of his and I know nothing about him. He's stayed out of the spot light so I don't know anything about him other than he sits on the (R) side of the aisle.

I may have been misinformed, but it WAS on the internet...

Oklahoma was the only state in which Obama carried not a single county.  Reckon the chances of a Democrat winning that seat in 2014 are about zero.

I'd give it a realistic low single digits chance. There are still a few Democrats on the state level that have some popularity and name recognition.

On the other hand, Tulsa just had a "non-partisan" mayoral election where the previous D mayor ran against the not ragingly popular incumbent R mayor and got her ass handed to her by the voters. I kind of thought she had a shot at it.

My appologies to Sen Coburn.  I confused him with Sen Inhofe.

Coburn has his faults as well but not quite the egotist that Inhofe is.
I'm guessing fighting cancer and losing his son the wind has been knocked out of his sails.

Either way come next year we'll have 2 new senators.

I seem to remember Coburn as a pretty strong supporter of the 2A.  And him being on the side or goodness and light back when the NICS Improvement Act was being debated and voted upon

As did I. Inhofe's son was the one recently killed in a plane crash.

Either one of your a 1,0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better then either of mine.

I just watch a clip of Inhofe ripping someone in the Obama administration a new one over Globular Woerming.  The head of EPA, IIRC.  Masterfully done.

Yeah, I kind of think even our raging liberal democrats here in Oklahoma are considerably more conservative that even your hard core right wing conservatives. =D
