Feinstein comment on U.S. drones likely to embarrass Pakistan
The Predator planes that launch missile strikes against militants are based in Pakistan, the senator says. That suggests a much deeper relationship with the U.S. than Islamabad would like to admit.
By Greg Miller
February 13, 2009
Reporting from Washington -- A senior U.S. lawmaker said Thursday that unmanned CIA Predator aircraft operating in Pakistan are flown from an air base in that country, a revelation likely to embarrass the Pakistani government and complicate its counter-terrorism collaboration with the United States.

The disclosure by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, marked the first time a U.S. official had publicly commented on where the Predator aircraft patrolling Pakistan take off and land.

At a hearing, Feinstein expressed surprise over Pakistani opposition to the campaign of Predator-launched CIA missile strikes against Islamic extremist targets along Pakistan's northwestern border.

"As I understand it, these are flown out of a Pakistani base," she said.

*facepalm* YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO SAY THAT TO THE PRESS, BUBBLEHEAD!

So why isn't she being charged with treason?

Why am I not surprised?  Well, hopefully we get to keep that base, but somehow I doubt it.

"National security" has always been a political tool of the democrats.  Just look at all the CIA leaks during the last Administration.

Plausible deniability is not the same thing as a quote from a US lawmaker and head of an intelligence committee.

That will be showing up on Al-Jazeera for weeks, now.

Congresscritters, and their staffers, are notorious for slip of the lip.

Sometimes it's calculated to show our hand, and let the other party know we're dead serious.

I watched in horror as Colin Powell did the same thing at the U.N. one afternoon.

I could almost hear the DCI thunking his head against his desk in Langley.

Intel is sometimes allowed to be promulgated to the other side when the value of doing so outweighs the loss of that source or means of collection later on.

F-101 Voodoo and U-2 photo recon images from Cuba are but one example.

That's not saying Feinstein was correct in what she did, but there is indeed more to a given story.

That all depends on how you define "high math", I suppose...

And we all take it that Feinstein actually knows what she is talking about.

I know that there are several times I have heard a member of Congress say something about what is supposed to be going on in certain areas of the world and I would be in that time and place and have to look around and laugh because they couldn't be further from the truth.

Isn't it true that if your vector space has only 0,2,5 in it, then 2+2 would have to = 0,2, or 5?  First of 10 axioms of vector spaces says that any element in the space plus any other element in the space must equal another element of the space.

Not that Feinstein would understand that.

Yeah. I haven't the faintest idea what he was talking about either.

I remember taking Algebra courses but I don't remember anything about them other than that they were Algebra. Now, stuff like addition, subtraction, and guzintas I'm pretty good at, but beyond that I get in touch with an old friend and get him to put his B.S. in Maths to use.

:|  I know at least a few of you guys understand what I'm saying.  Your buddy would know, vector spaces are taught in linear algebra courses.

I do appreciate the 1984 reference though, as I read that for the first time not too long ago.

And Feinstein, she will never cease to amaze me.  Stupidity knows no bounds, apparently.  That woman needs to be voted off the island.
