HVAC Help no heat
« on: October 17, 2017, 09:39:49 PM »
Tried turning on my heat this morning for the first time. No dice.
Induction fan turns on but I don't see the glow bar com on or and gas valve click or fire of course.
Its a York model p2udd10p05701c.
Whats the aps hive mind think I should start poking at first?
Oh an FWI the AC was running 1 day ago because it was 85 degrees.

Thermocouple?  Usual culprit in my (limited) experience.

Main gas valve on? LP or neighborhood piped natural gas?

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

There is no pilot. So I would assume no thermocouple.
Propane. And yes I have gas. Nothing is turned off. Water heater is cranking away right next to it.

Does the furnace have a glow-plug type ignitor?  If so, it would be the part the gets hot and becomes incandescent prior the flow if fuel to the furnace.  I have one on the furnace in my home and about a year ago it failed (22 y/o furnace) and had to be replaced.  For me it was a simple job with hand tools after cutting the power to the furnace.

Generally they look something like this:

I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

I does. And I see no glow. Not sure what mine exactly looks like.
Does it fail open if I check it with a ohm meter?

I would expect so.  I could see the break on mine once I'd pulled it.  Since I'd watched the start cycle of my furnace I knew its normal operation.

So a physical break. Got it. I'll pull it out tomorrow.

Your description of the starting sequence seems off. Usually its induction fan, hot surface igniter, gas valve. if the flame is not established in a few seconds, the gas valve closes & 15 or so seconds later the induction stops. If the T-stat is still calling it'll try 3 times total before it locks  out.

If there is no crack in the igniter, try jumping terminals on the pressure switch. It has a rubber hose going from the induction blower housing to a diaphragm looking canister with two wire connected. While you're at it you may want to look at that hose before going to the trouble of pulling the igniter.

The pressure switch establishes draft before the gas valve opens.

Check pressure switch hose and the tiny hole from the fan motor.

That will be 69.95.

And sometimes goes on and on and on.

Yes, it is just a heater.  Open means no juice flow, no ignition, no heat.  Thermocouple will detect this and turn off the gas.

Checked the glow bar first had resistance so I moved over to the diagram switches.
Pulled the hose of the induction motor and we'll sucked on it. I could hear the micoswitches click. What the heck turned the power on sucked again and we have ignition.
Went outside and checked the pipes. Yep big old dead wasp nest in the inlet pipe.

Cheap fixes are always good.

Freaking wasps.  Even in death they are a nuisance.
