Voluntarily gave up his moderator position. I'm not sure why he's not been around here much and won't speak for him.

The word through the grapevine is that he became a charismatic religious leader and now receives the weepy adoration of ~~millions~~ ~~thousands~~ an indeterminate number of devoted followers.

How quickly we forget.

I saw the thread title on the index page and my first thought was, "Who doesn't know that he was eaten by a shark while snorkling off Australia last year?"

Then I opened the thread and realized we should be discussing MIKE Irwin.

If he was feeling moderator burn-out, I sympathize. I'm a mod on a couple of forums and I think I'm about due for a sabbatical myself.

I personally feel many here should move on from APS, myself included. However, it appears to the casual observer that APS could indeed be the be-all, end-all of some's existence, almost like a Twitter/MySpace/Facebook thing.

Choosing to pop in on a forum from time to time is a good thing. I don't think I could handle being on any site all, or most, of the time. It's kinda like a visiting the family over the holiday kinda thang..."it's been good seeing you, but I have to go now".

I "moved on" back in January. This is the second time that I've checked in since then. Someone pointed out this thread to me.

I'm not sure whether I should stay "moved on" or drop in once in a while

To answer the OP's question, Mike is still very much a member of APS.

I know that may trouble some, based on the undertones I sense in this thread, but there it is.

Whether he chooses to post or not is entirely his call.

We will afford him the courtesy due fellow APS members - the rules haven't changed.
