Title: Mitt Romney weaseling on AWB, guns...
Post by: Manedwolf on February 20, 2007, 09:50:34 AM
FYI. For anyone who had considered looking further at him. ABC, Feb 17 2007
Quote
Stephanopoulos: Let's talk about guns. You were supportive of the Brady bill, the handgun waiting period, in the past. You signed an assault weapon ban into law and you said, in the past, "I don't line up with the NRA."

Now, you...

Mitt Romney: Well, on that issue.

Stephanopoulos: Now you're a member of the NRA.

Mitt Romney: Yes, and I know the NRA does not support an assault weapon ban. So I don't line up on that particular issue with the NRA, either does President Bush. He likewise says he supported an assault weapon ban.

Today we don't have the Brady bill because we have instantaneous background checks. That's no longer a operative or needed measure.

But I'm a strong proponent of Second Amendment rights. I believe people, under our Constitution, have the right to bear arms.

We have a gun in one of our homes. It's not owned by me, it's owned by my son, but I've always considered it sort of mine.

Can any MA people tell me...didn't he just break the law there by claiming a gun that someone else has a FOID for, not him?

I guess maybe he sort of broke the law by, sort of considering the gun his, sort of.

I sort of think he has a lot worse things in his resume than that, sort of.

Imagine a Mass. politician weaseling on guns! shocked

It's hard to imagine how considering something sort of yours would break any laws.

Of course, it is Massachusetts.   smiley

Yes, but his believing that any of us would buy his nonsense is simply pathetic.

Not a fan of the guy. It's just getting discouraging; so far there are no viable candidates for 2008 that I'm sure I could vote for even whilst holding my nose.

Mitt was somewhat complicit with the Bulgers if that tells you anything. So were (are?) Kerry and Kennedy... Lovely group.  rolleyes

I already knew he wouldn't get my vote, but this seals it.

"Yeah, I smoked but didn't inhale."

Come on Mit.  Pick a position an go with it.  Do not pander to the pro-second amendment crowd.  We will shove it back into your face.  You are better off standing up to us rather than trying to pander.  Democrats are convinced Gore lost because of his stance on guns.  You better go to school and learn from his mistakes.  We may not make you but we sure will break you.

Pick one position and go with it.  It is a mistake to do a straddle.

He sort of wants my vote, but he's sort of not going to get it, because I sort of don't have any respect for people who sort of don't have any sort of principles.

See, here's the problem with these RINO's.  Their ego's are larger than their brains.  Romney is a classic example of that.  He joins the NRA last October and believes that we redneck hillbilly gun owners are so stupid that we won't catch on.  I have really learned a lot by cruising the gun boards since I got a computer in August of 2000.   The vast majority of folks like us are actually brighter than the average person, and we have interests that are wider than where does our next 4 wheeler come from, bubba.  In fact those of us in the firearm culture may be the most perceptive citizens in our country.

Most Republicans are primarily conservatives or libertarians.  Many of us also have  a soft spot for folks who have had a poor hand dealt to them by illness, injury or an uncontrollable circumstance.  We do not suffer fools or lazy no accounts very well.  We can see through artifice.  We are also, sadly, a little soft in the head for a politician that seems to be like us; the Compassionate Conservative.

Whether you like him or not, probably the best man for the job of president, is a man that is a true conservative.  He also has the name recognition that other true conservatives don't have, like Tancredo and others.  That man is Newt Gingrich.  He has the ego, sure. He is also annoying, but so what.  He also has the brain and the background to go with that ego.  He's annoying because he says what needs to be said.  He is America's preeminent historian.  He's not a lawyer, he is a teacher as well as historian.  No one would stand a chance with him in a debate.  Newt could also recapture the house, because by then even the eloi will see what the Socialists are up to.  Screw the Senate.

It's too early to make a prediction, but if Rudy, or McCain get the nod, there will be a resurgence of a 3rd party; Independent or Libertarian who will put up a fairly well known conservative and at least 20% of the Republican party will abandon the party and vote Independent or Libertarian.  Rudy and McCain are RINO's and thinking Americans know that.  Then the same thing will happen the first time Clinton ran; he won because of the little Texan grabbed up 20% of the vote.  This time the next Clinton, or someone equally as bad will be elected and the People's Republic of America slouches faster toward Gommorah.
