Title: Good Third Party DeWalt Batteries?
Post by: Ben on August 22, 2019, 11:48:41 AM
Any recommendations for good third party DeWalt batteries? The batteries for my older 14.4 stuff are about gone. Last time I replaced them I went with DeWalt, but the price for OEM has jumped dramatically. I can buy a whole new drill for the $85 they want for a battery now.

There's a ton of third party on Amazon, but I can't trust reviews there anymore. I bought a third party battery for an old 12v DeWalt drill a few years ago, and I about have to hammer the thing in and use a vise to get it out.

You built a gun, can't you rebuild the battery pack?  ;)

Hey, I'm lucky I didn't blow myself up with the gun. I'm not pushing my luck with a battery.

14.4 is old ni-cd stuff. Sell it on Craigslist and buy a new li-ion drill.

I've already got three other drills. :)

This is from an old set that includes a trim saw and sawzall, and  I don't want to buy new saws if I can still get batteries reasonably.

Get a tool with a cord on it that plugs into and electrical outlet.

Go to Batteries Plus and see if they will rebuild the battery pack.

Problem solved.

But  I don't have a 1/4 mile extension cord, and I'm too weak to lift my 300lb generator onto my ATV. :)

I second this motion.  I've had BatteriesPlus rebuild a number of battery packs for me over the years.  They might even be able to rebuild those packs with NiMH batteries.  Those would likely work okay in a NiCad charger.
