Texas, that bastion of freedom
« on: May 17, 2014, 03:20:43 AM »
Looking at Erlenmeyer flasks on Amazon, this is in the description.  I think after I order it I'll open carry down to the mailbox to pick it up.

Quote
These 2L Erlenmeyer flasks are designed with heavy duty rims to reduce chipping. Their uniform wall thickness provides the proper balance between mechanical strength and thermal shock resistance. Texas Residents: Under Texas State Law, this product requires a Precursor Chemical/Laboratory Apparatus NAR-120 permit to ship to a Texas address. After purchase, the seller will contact you via email to verify your permit. Failure to provide a valid permit will result in a cancellation and refund of your order.

Freedom is just another word.

Nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free.

On some of the chemistry boards, there has been discussion of how some supply houses in certain states now require a copy of your photo ID or record your identifying details in a logbook before selling you certain types of lab glassware and equipment.  We can all thank the meth labs for this.

We can all thank the nanny state reaction to the meth labs I think.

As someone who is seriously into coffee and trained as a chemist, I have pondered duplicating one of these setups with standard lab glassware.  The second link in particular, is horrendously overpriced for what the glassware costs.  The cool metal stand and the hipster factor must be what is driving the price.

And the nanny state banning meth for creating dangerous meth labs.

Five years ago, when the district for which I work consolidated the middle and high schools, an enormous amount of glassware was discarded from our science stock rooms. We had stuff that was decades old. Times and teaching methods change, as do safety regs, so admin decided not to move any of it. The district is in sore financial straits these days...black market glassware sales wouldn't solve all our problems, but....
I expect all that stuff did, in fact, end up getting sold by the demolition company or dome of its savvier mooks.
That's right... I'm a Jackbooted Thug AND a Juvenile Indoctrination Technician.  Deal with it.

The company that supplied the glassware for your first link?  Yeah, they put together a kit.

Just about $200....     Might just be worth it.

Freedom is just a word.

One that Texans online tend to bandy about rather a lot. ;)

The whole country is guilty of it.  I do see it more here than other places, though.
