Instead of dredging up this thread (http://www.armedpolitesociety.com/index.php?topic=19149.0), I thought I'd post this TED talk in its own new place.
http://www.ted.com/talks/mike_rowe_celebrates_dirty_jobs.html
It's long-ish (about 20min), and begins with a very graphic anecdote not recommended for the squeamish, but the entire presentation speaks amazing volumes about honest, hard work.
In my opinion, every kid in high school should see this after graduation, although granted I'd also show kids in Health class the movie Requiem for a Dream to keep them from using drugs...

Son, my job is not to get you home alive. It's to get you home rich.

Mike Rowe quickly became one of my favorite people.
Well said, Mike.

Been a big fan of Mike Rowe for some time now. There was a great article on him in Outdoor Magazine this Spring. He has quite a resume.

ME won't support that flash player version so I can't see it. Available on YouTube, maybe?

Good video. He's been a favorite of mine for a while.
-
I was a fan of his until I watched one episode of "Wild Pacific". Granted he was just the narrator, but it was little more than an hour of Greenpeace style environmentalism and socialist propaganda.
-
Okay, just finished the video. I want a transcript - this was absolutely top notch.
-
Hmmm, never heard of "Wild Pacific." I wonder if he signed up to narrate before he knew the content?
-
It was a show that premiered on Discovery about a week or two ago. Can't have been much more than that as I was still in Camarillo when I saw it (BTW, I'm back home already).

Economy's bad. People take what they can get. =|

I DVR'd the wild pacific and watch about 20 minutes of one before turning it off and deleting them all. It was like watching a Whale Wars marathon.
I wont hold the narration against him, he reads what the writers plop in front of him as he is paid to do.

Back so soon? Contract run out or did you find something better?

Worked my self out of a job. Maybe I should have sandbagged. Did 50% more than the original scope of the assignment in 2/3 the time. They got a great deal; I got screwed.
