JJ, that's what I don't get. Weiner's out there apologizing for something that he obviously doesn't regret (unless he has uncontrollable impulses), and everyone is simply accepting that apology.

He's not sorry he did this, or he wouldn't have done it. He's sorry he was caught.

A real apology would have been something like this: "I want to let everyone know that I was lying the past few days about this. I did send the photos. I'm not going to apologize for having done so, because I was doing this with consenting adult females. This is no way interferes with my job. I do apologize to my wife, because she didn't know this was something I get off on. I should have told her about my little fetish before we were married."

Medved wasn't talking about Weiner specifically, just the whole long liberal arc into the perverse. 

A real man, in my view, has to be more than just not be a liar, he has to be someone we respect, and Weiner fails the smell test on that.  His behavior would not be manly if openly admitted, just infantile.
