Title: Chain Mail
Post by: doczinn on February 07, 2007, 03:09:28 PM
I've come across a chainmail shirt. Anyone know what it might be worth or where to sell it, besides Ebay?

How on earth do you just "come across" a chain mail shirt??

Cleaning out the apartment of an internet junkie.

I've also "come across" two kayaks, a 40" flat-screen TV, and too many other cool things to mention.

Given the amount of time, energy, and materials that goes into making a mail shirt, I'd say at the very least fifty bucks. See what size person it fits and then slap that mess on Ebay.

Cleaning out the apartment of an internet junkie.

Literally? Did they like lose their job due to "world of warcraft" and fall off a building or something?

According to the guy, he went through a bout of depression (you'd understand if you saw the apartment) and, having snapped out of it, just wants everything gone.

The other things I mentioned were from other jobs. This job yielded:

- The chain mail shirt
- A SOG knife
- six brand new "pez dispensers" that can each hold 30 "pieces of pez"
- 120GB hard drive
- many XBox games
- a few CD's and DVD's
- a sword cane
- brass knuckles
- an ASP baton
- too much other stuff to list right now.

Can I have the sword cane or one of the kayaks?

I when I say "have" I mean for free.  grin

honestly, unless you find someone locally that REALLY wants the shirt, don't expect much off EvilBay: although very time consuming, chainmail is easy to make (which is why chainmail makers hear "I could just do that at home!" so often). And shipping will probably be prohibitive...

You MIGHT want to see if a local Ren Faire has "For Sale" listings, or if there's someone willing to barter something you'ld like...

One is a short kayak, the other is longer and great for touring.

So there.

the maille shirt could either be good or indian-made crap. i'm a chainmailler myself, and if you provide a close-up picture of the rings, i could make a rough guess.

cheap indian made ones go for about 1-200 bucks.

I *suppose* making a shirt out of it is better than burning or shredding them... but I don't think I'd be seen walking around in garb made of "if you don't send this to 700 people yer gonna DIE!" letters.

OHHH, maille Smiley

Is it steel, zinc, copper, aluminium, or bronze? Is it galvanised?

If it is hand made by a competent smith, anywhere from $100-600. The galvanised steel ones are fairly expensive. If it is a crappy alloy, or mass produced, it won't be worth as much.

What the hell is pez and why would it need a dedicated dispenser?

PEZ!

You've never had PEZ?!

They look like little pills, but they're candy. And they're like crack. The dispensers are goofy, but the candy...man...

Oh, and the dispensers usually have a head on top that tips back to let the candy out. Google for it. There's been PEZ dispensers of everything from cartoon characters to Ronald Reagan.

But this is the one I would want.  grin

It seems to be stainless steel, to me.

These "pez dispensers" hold a variety of "pez" that's just over a fifth of an inch in diameter.

Are we talking some kind of weird Japanese pez like an anime fanboy would collect or are you using a coy name for a recreational pharmaceutical dispenser?

MY Stuff!

Just trying to take a few things off our hands.  Just think of the person who would have to come clean out your apartment when the time comes.  Wouldn't you rather your internet friends get the wealth?

oh yes, the pez that's exactly .22"! Good find!

These pez are a hair larger than a .22.

I'd like to reinforce that these are pez dispensers. If they were magazines, it would be illegal in California to transfer them.
