Coffee and tea may protect against stroke and dementia

Drink up on your coffee and tea!  Although one thing that annoys me on these studies is the methodology: what is a 'cup' of coffee or tea? Is it eight fluid ounces, or is it a 'cup' as per the coffee maker, which can vary anywhere from 4-6 ounces?  My current coffee maker has a 10 'cup' capacity, which measures out at 50 ounces.

Gonna live forever!

A cup? In the name of science I put my Keith Richards hat on once and snorted a line of matcha powder. Ought to take care of that pesky stroke for awhile.

Worked with a guy who would drink 3-5 pots a day while at work. Said he also drank a pot before leaving the house and one when he got home. Had a coffee mug labeled "Coffee Pot To Go" which would, you guess it, hold an entire pot. He still fell asleep at work, sometimes while holding the mug, never spilled a drop though. Kept a coffee maker in his work bench just in case the office one broke.

My favorite studies are the ones that point out that whatever I am already in the habit of doing is beneficial to me.  Even better if they promote the idea that a single, slightly implausible change in lifestyle is likely to have widespread benefits to a heterogenous audience.

Also, how strong is the coffee brewed?
And where does the "cups" measure for a coffee maker come from, anyway?  On my coffee maker, each cup works out to 150ml (5 fl oz)
I drink "6 cups" per day, as measured by my coffee maker.  Comes out to 30.7fl oz.  To that, I use 1/4 cup of coffee grounds.

My favorite studies are the ones that point out that whatever I am already in the habit of doing is beneficial to me.  Even better if they promote the idea that a single, slightly implausible change in lifestyle is likely to have widespread benefits to a heterogenous audience.

Certainly makes for a popular phd thesis!

There is an ISO standard cup of tea.

ISO3103

there's one for coffee as well.

For our 50 ounces of drip coffee in the Zojirushi coffee maker, I grind 3/4 cup of coffee beans.  I usually roast our coffee to a 'full city plus' level.

Bonus round, can you tell me where to find the standards the control the dimensions and tolerance of TIG torch parts?  In what spec would I find, say, the dimensions of a collet for a type 17 tig torch?

Due to my heart condition, I can't tolerate any amount of caffeine, but I drink decaffeinated tea.

Unfortunately, the study doesn't seem to mention what component(s) in the coffee and/or tea  provide the stroke protection, so I don't have any way of judging whether or not my tea consumption is helping me.

If we're playing that game...

Manly men like their coffee good and hot. That's why I prefer to drink half of a very small cup at a time.  :P
