A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.

I don't know. Can we really trust that this "light" they emit is a safe thing to have in our homes?

And they're 100% efficient.  Who can complain about that?

Yeah, that guy in Germany selling "100% efficient electrical resistance heaters that just happen to plug into light sockets" was the first thing I thought of when reading this thread.  =D

While shopping at Wal-Mart yesterday, I noticed a few very large and prominent lightbulb displays on endcaps.  I also noticed that they have a whole lot of the plainly packaged contractor-type bulbs.  It looks like they are preparing for the increased demand a ban will bring.

Saw the same thing at local home depot. I ended up buying a few contractor packs of bulbs.

FWIW there are now incandescent bulbs on the market that meet the efficiency requirements.  Philips and Sylvania both have them.  They're basically a new halogen bulb that's engineered for efficiency instead of high output or longevity.

The news article I saw on them said they were available for $1.60/each, which isn't horrible, but I can't find them online for anything less than $3.50/each and that's unacceptable to me given the mild efficiency gains and that they're not supposed to last as long as CFLs.

Well that ruins my plans for quick riches. Now what am I going to do with the 2.6 million 100W GE bulbs I buried in the back yard?

As I understand it, the same bill also bans the older style, T12 fluorescent tubes, and some of the equally ubiquitous 7-series T8 tubes. I guess we can assume the enforcement has been de-funded, across the board.  ???

Here's some hilarious grousing by industry types, whining about how continued freedom will mean they sell fewer fancy light bulbs than they had planned.    ;/

If only they could make those CFLs last more than ten eight five two years.

Hell, I'd be happy if the ones sold at Home Despot lasted for a whole SIX FREAKIN' MONTHS.  Half of my CFLs didn't last as long as the incandescents they replaced.

Just had one burn out after 4 months, though the fixture may be the culprit.
