As time went on, tr became more progressive and socialist.  When he ran on the bull moose ticket, he was to the left of woodrow wilson.

It's hard to imagine a reality in which TR was not a Progressive.

Indeed the idea TR is among the progenitors of modern welfare-statism is so uncontroversial it's taught in college. As a history student it's hard for me to understand why this is some controversial opinion.

I'm not a Beck fanboy by any means--he sometimes makes me squirm--but I think what he tried to do on his tv show was notable given the medium's general focus on sensationalism and short attention span segments.  He offered many viewers a framework and a time-line for interpreting what is going on today in politics and what has been going on for the last century.

I was thinking more of his upbringing and presidency.  I see him more as a BIG GOVERNMENT advocate later in life than "left of Woodrow Wilson."


A lot of people seem to get a bit dopey as senior citizens. =(
