Christmas Lists?
« on: December 03, 2006, 12:01:52 AM »
Hey, everybody,

My mom wanted me to deliver unto her a list of things I might like for christmas, and my brother's been pressuring me for the same, and I am totally falling short, so maybe y'all can help inspire me: post your list of christmassy desires and aid those of us less decisive!

some things i wanted you might like:

Welcome To The Real World: a dangerous place to be caught unprepared

it's a book about situational awareness, defence, etc.

Inova X-5 flashlight. i have and x-1 and love it.

Obenauf's leather oil. the only shoes i'll wear are leather boots, thus necessitating leather oil.

My list this year was fairly short:
Camera lens
Frank Miller's 300
Beerfest
Grand Prix
Clerks 2

If I want something, I have a tendency to just go out and buy it myself.
Oh, Lord, please let me be as sanctimonious and self-righteous as those around me, so that I may fit in.

A set of coasters - not wood, ceramic, or sandstone (what does that leave?)
A new pair of sneakers
A 2-pack of those steel strip-type socket holders in each of the 3 popular drive sizes
A horsehair bench brush
An office chair
A new King-sized pillow
The complete "Get Smart" series on DVD (I think I'll have to get this one myself)

A new Leatherman (old one "disappeared", right out of my backpack at work)

A couple pounds of King Crab, a pound of colossal shrimp (no pun intended), some good smoked salmon, and a couple dozen each steamed clams and oysters

A six pack or two of Anchor porter to wash down the above

peace and quiet
"A son of the sea, am I" Gordon Lightfoot

Same for me.  If I want something and I can afford it, then I go buy it.  If I want something and I can't afford it, then it's too expensive to ask for as a gift.

But while we're on the subject, I could definitely go for a new camera.  In particular, I want one of Canon's new XTi digital SLRs.  My 10D is starting to get a little old and salty, and this new model offers enough of an improvement at a low enough price that it's worth considering.    I'll probably end up buying one in 6 months or so, after I save up some pennies.

'On Killing' and 'On Combat' by Col. Dave Grossman

Bleh. The day Dave Grossman decides that video game developers should NOT be "legislated out of existence" is the day I start giving a fractional crap about what he says about anything, ever.

But I'm hijacking my own thread, thanks all y'all for your lists. I definitely need to get some new tools (thanks to whoever the infernal jerkface who linked to EDCforums here or on THR, I now cannot bear to live another day without about 400 dollars of Atwood tools. I'll fight a bear for a Prybaby.) and some teevee shows on deeveedee. Maybe some memories.. getta' coupla' megachips..
