I don't know if the proximity hurt them so much, but I do question the propriety of a church helping to establish a mosque. Seems an obvious non-starter.

No, I just mean that the church's job (and God wrote the job description) is to spread the gospel, and also (among other things) uphold the faith against any contrary teaching. Giving the church's property for the construction of a mosque does the opposite of that, regardless of 'oo killed 'oom, or if no one was killed at all.
