Title: Moose Story...

HERE'S A GREAT MOOSE STORY---When this little guy was young; he lost his mother too soon.
So the Fish and Game people brought him to Wendall and Debbie. They asked them to raise him to a safe age and then turn him loose again.

So they bottle-fed and took care of him; he lived with their cows in the pasture and barn.  Last spring he was a year old, weaned from the bottle and it was time to turn him back into the wild.

They opened the gate of the pasture and off he went.  He stayed gone all summer; then this fall he shows up again, back with the cows.  He really thinks he is a cow!  They are all happy to see him as he is pretty friendly.

He likes special treats, too.  He loves honey buns and will eat them right out of your mouth.

Wendall and Debbie live up in the mountains so when it came time to bring the cows down, they left him alone up there.  Well, the moose got lonely all by himself so he headed down to find another heard of cows to hang with.

About a week later the neighbor who owned the cows called to ask Wendall to please come get his moose.  So he headed out with a honey bun, bucket of grain and the horse trailer, got him into the trailer, and brought him back home again.

The moose is free to go anytime he wants but is choosing to stay put for now. Surely, come spring he will start to feel a bit like a male moose again and take off, but, for now at least, he is happy where he is.

How cool is that!?

I wonder if he is going to be a problem when he gets older?

Don't know much about them but I hear they can be pretty stubborn and mean esp. around rut.

If all goes as planned I'll be on Isle Royale hiking and hopefully getting pics of the moose next fall.

I was wondering about the rut too. If he turns ornery he won't be so cute anymore.  shocked

I agree with you guys.
After all, you can take the moose out of the wild but, you can't take the wild out of the moose.

No, sorry, I don't. It came in my email. I know who sent it but don't know where it originated. I did a search to see if I could come up with one but no luck. I'll ask back to see if there might be a way to find one.

Not to be a party pooper, but these "came in my email" stories are almost always bogus.  This one reminds me of the "GIANT KILLER BEAR" story that circulated for so many years and still crops up from time to time.  The fact that there are no locations mentioned and no source should set off all your alarms.  The photos could be nothing more than a moose people have been illegally feeding.  They will get somewhat tame if you do that--at least to a point.

Yeah, right.  What F&G people did that?

I'm sorry, but these things really make me mad.  They're lies, spread over and over again.

Check Snopes.com and urbanlegends.com anytime you get one of these things and are thinking of sending it on.

That said, maybe it's true, I haven't checked.

No reference to the story at either snopes or UL. Either way the pix are cool...  grin

The pix would be a serious crime here.  People shouldn't tame the mooses!

Agreed, makes him too vulnerable to hunters. He could walk right uo to them looking for a honey bun. But I see a pretty young moose there so I tend to lean in the direction of what the story is claiming. It wouldn't be the first time young orphaned animals were raised by humans. Either way there's not much we can do about it.

Hunters?  shocked

You just lure him into your garage with a honey bun , close the door and then pop him behind the ear like a mob stoolie.

Moose, moose, I like a moose!
I've never had anything quite like a moose!
I've had many lovers, my morals are loose!
But I've never had anything, quite like a moose!

Sorry... couldn't resist (and ya'll should be glad I don't have the rest of the lyrics)
