As one veteran (Vietnam) speaking to other veterans, I've never felt that that there's anything "happy" about Veterans' Day, but that seems to be the way we transmit salutations on all our holidays. From me to all my brothers and sisters in arms, "Thank you for your service." You can forever be proud, knowing that you answered the call when many would not.

Memorial Day is to honor those who were killed in the line of duty. Veterans' Day is for honoring those veterans who are still alive.

Exactly right.  But remembering those that are gone kind of takes the "happy" out for some, don't ya think?   I'm not a vet, but I can kinda see why some would be just a little hesitant to celebrate their day.
