VESUVIUS, MARCH 1944 ERUPTION, CASTLE FILMS.

Italy had surrendered in September of the previous year.

Just poking around in the archives of Castle Films.  My family and some neighbors used to have movie parties about every two weeks.  Pop would get Castle Films from a friend of his who owned a photography shop and we'd show these (as 16mm silent film versions with captions), especially the newsreels from World War II.

Another sample.  Who knew there was a B-18 bomber?

The Douglas B-18 Bolo (Digby in Australian service).

Not particularly successful medium bomber. Never got the chance to show what it could do in the opening phases of the war in the Pacific because MacArthur allowed the Philippines air force to be destroyed on the ground.

IIRC most of the remaining operational B-18s served out the war on anti-submarine duties.
