Which 2008 Presidential Candidate Agrees With You?
http://www.vajoe.com/candidate_calculator.html
-
85% Thompson, however, I don't like having to pick on each issue. Woudl rather have a 'not important' choice
-
86.57 match to Ron Paul, so no suprise there. The next closest was 57% for Tancredo IIRC.
-
Thompson 75%, Hunter a close second (72%). Too bad neither would likely win.
-
Ron Paul. Hard to say whether that is 100%; I have not heard him say or read anything stated or written by him that I disagree with so far.

91% Tom Tancredo...
-
89.86% match with Tom Tancredo, with Hunter, Romney, and Thompson at 85.51%, 75.36%, and 72.46% respectively. (They must've based this on what Romney is saying today, rather than how he governed MA.)
The worst-ranking Republican was Ron Paul at 53.62% . . .
Twenty points down I see the highest ranking democrat was Biden (!) at 33.33% . . . Kucinich came in dead last at 10.14% . . . I've heard both speak, and wonder how either managed to score so high.
-
A 97.3% match for Ron Paul. No surprise there.
What's more telling is this:
Bottom of the Barrel
New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) - 25.68%
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) - 25.68%
-
No candidate matched me more than 40%.
I hated this quiz because the one that matched me the most was Joe Biden, who i'd never vote for, even if he was the last candidate on earth.
I just have to grit my teeth and bear the fact that if I vote for a democrat, I am voting for a gun banner, and if I vote for a republican, I vote for someone that doesn't believe in science, or other rights that need to be addressed. I lose either way.
Out of the candidates that have a chance, I'd probably vote Mike Huckabee or Dennis Kucinich. I really don't like ANY of the top tier candidates from either party.
Obama was 39.58%, but he's an empty suit.
Edwards was 35.42%. I like the guy personally, but I don't think he's presidential matarial. If I'm going to vote for a lefty, I want a real lefty like kucinich, not a Johnny-Edwards-come-lately.
Rudy and Richardson were both 33.33%. I like Richardson's forigen policy experience. I'd rather have him as a secretary of state, though.
-
90% Tom without getting into setting my 'priorities'.
86.27% for Fred Thompson setting priorities.
It'd probably change some if it had some questions on the drug war or the capability for more 'nuanced' answers.

88 for Paul, Huckabee second. Surprisingly (maybe not) Hillary came up before Guliani.
-
Paul, Thompson, Tancredo, Hukabee. No one else was over 50%. Too bad all of them together don't have enough votes to beat Clinton.
-
80% Tancredo
75% Ron Paul.
I kinda figured Paul would be at the top. A little surprised.
The only thing I know about Tancredo is his name. Anyone know what his politics are?

Tancredo's #1 issue has been dealing with illegal immigration.

Kind of surprised that Huckabee matched up so close to me according to that thing. I'm not surprised that Thompson and Tancredo were close seconds.
-
Lots here coming up with Tancredo instead of Paul and surprised by it.
I'd guess that's probably because of Paul's stand on national defense and open borders.
My sense is most here are small L libertarians vs Paul who really is a true believer and is a capital L Libertarian.

Uhm, open borders? This is from Ron Paul's website:
* Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.
* Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.
* No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.
* No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
* End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.
* Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods.
If that's an 'open borders' plan what the hell does a closed borders plan look like?
-

I stand corrected. Wasn't the 1st time I was wrong and probably won't be the last...
So Ron isn't a true Libertarian then? Can't be with that stand on the border.
-

His stance on abortion (he's against it) doesn't mesh with the Libertarian party either.
-
No, Wolf, Ron is a true libertarian.* It's the Libertarians that are off the mark.
*Or at least he's more libertarian on those two issues.

Only 78.26% for Ron Paul?
Why do you hate Ron Paul and America so much, Nico?

Hillary Clinton 172.97%?

I don't think I actually agree with him that much. May be because I selected so many 'unsures' because the issues were multi-faceted.
Brownback came in distant second with 66.6% which has to be some sort of sign. I think he dropped out anyways, didn't he?
-

That's how I felt too. The questions were too broad and phrased things in a way that gave them a political spin.
like "abortion rights." I don't think abortion should be outlawed, but I don't agree with either of their descriptions either:
Yes: Support Abortion Rights
In 1973, the Supreme Court ruled in Roe vs. Wade that the Constitution protects a woman's decision whether to terminate her pregnancy.
You support the Supreme Court's ruling or similar interpretations concerning a woman's right to choose an abortion.
No: Against Abortion Rights
An unborn fetus is a human being. Therefore, some argue that on legal grounds terminating a pregnancy is illegal, just as murder is illegal. Others argue on religious or ethical grounds that because an unborn fetus is a human being, it is immoral to destroy it.
You support this or similar arguments.
The same is true for most of the questions.

-
This is a pretty crude test, but better than nothing and it will get some folks thinking, "Hmm, maybe I ought to look at Candidate X more closely..."
I am not surprised that Tancedo & Hunter were my top two.
I suspect Romney scores so high because it takes his current positions at face value.
There is no way I would prefer Huck over Thompson in the voting booth.
I feel dirty for having an 18% overlap with Hillary.
One thing of note: There is much more variability (50% vs 16%) in the Republican candidates than the Democrat candidates. The "Big Tent" is to be found in the Republican party, nowadays. They have everything from a cross-dressing pro-torture, pro-war gun-grabber to a Baptist preacher to an almost Libertarian. It seems lockstep ideology is found on the Left, these days.

I seem to recall a quote....Something like...
"There's not a dime's worth of difference between the democrat and republican parties"
Was that George Wallace or Waylon Jennings?
btw, Paul, 75% or so....
