Removing medical tape residue...help!!
« on: June 19, 2020, 12:15:45 AM »
After my surgery Monday I'm concerned about the stock levels of medical tape at my local hospital. As much as they used on me they can't have much left.

Anyone recommend an effective, readily available product/substance for removing the tape residue?

Alcohol pads usually work ok or 70% isopropyl alcohol and cotton balls rubbed in a circular motion..

Cotton balls or gauze pads and olive oil.

Kerosene might work, that's what I use to remove stubborn label glue from jars I want to keep.

Or just dust it with talcum powder or graphite to kill the stickiness and let it wear off with your outer layer of skin.  (really hoping you try the graphite  >:D )

WD-40.

If that doesn't work, nail polish remover.

If that doesn't work, Goo Gone.

If that doesn't work we're back to fillet knives and detcord.

Basically what brad said.  dish soap, then acetone, then Goo Gone, then straight to MEK.  >:D

(Don't actually use MEK on your skin, and be careful with Goo Gone.)

Acetone burns your skin doesn't it?  Or am I thinking MEK?

It can irritate if left in contact for extended periods. Used on a rag or cotton ball for small cleanups, it flashes off almost immediately. A quick wash with dish soap and water takes care of any remaining residue.

The Goo Gone has orange oil in it, but I have had the best luck with an orange oil liquid hand soap that I bought at Home Depot.  It has some grit (probably pumice) that works really well to clean my hands in the shop.

If a cheese grater doesn't work you have to step up to the belt sander.

Heathens!  A microplane grater is the sophisticated choice.
