I went to a private elementary school, and am fairly confident the nuns weren't unionized . . . nor were the lay teachers.
My first introduction to teacher's unions came about shortly after they began airing
Sesame Street. I was too old to watch it myself by then, but I remember the teacher's union in New York City came out
against the show; they went so far as to
recommend that parents don't let their children watch it.Why?
Children who watched it knew too much, which gave them an "unfair advantage" over kids who didn't watch it.
So much for teacher's unions actually being concerned with the children.
(Went to a publik hai skul, which of course was unionized. It had a FEW good teachers.)
