Title: "17 intelligence services"
Post by: Monkeyleg on October 23, 2016, 12:24:32 PM
We keep hearing the mantra started by Hillary that 17 intelligence services report that the Wikileaks documents came from the Russians, and so are not to be believed.

Aren't these the same intelligence services that said Hussein had WMD's?

. . . Aren't these the same intelligence services that said Hussein had WMD's?
They're the same ones who didn't see 9/11 coming, didn't predict the Paris attacks, were surprised by the London rail bombing, didn't anticipate the Boston Marathon bombing, missed the Florida nightclub attack (despite a warning from the perp's father) and just dropped the ball on a myriad of other events.

Wait, are there SEVENTEEN separate intelligence agencies in the US!

I think Hillary is including the Department of Agriculture, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, National Institutes for the Blind, and the Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

Wait, are there SEVENTEEN separate intelligence agencies in the US!

Group intelligence varies inversely with the number of participants.

I have a theoretical formula for this effect if anyone's interested.

Let's don't forget that unimpeachable bastion of liberty, The Southern Poverty Law Center.

The official list from Larry Corriea's FB page:
Quote
Hillary has confirmation from 17 intelligence agencies that it was Russia who hacked her email, and not John Podesta's manicurist. You probably didn't know we had 17 intelligence agencies. Unlike the ones that told George Bush that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, these agencies are totally legit. They are:

1. The Humane Society of Utah
2. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
3. The Flat Earth Society
4. Men's Warehouse
5. NPR
6. Some guy on Facebook who sounded way serious.
7. The cast of Glee
8. The Hair Club for Men
9. Sarah Plain and Tall
10. The letters M and N and the number 7
11. Jimmy the Intern
12. Michael Weston, Sam Axe, and Fiona in disguise as part of an elaborate con job
13. This tortilla that looks like the Virgin Mary
14. Al Gore
15. Xbox Live
16. The Scooby Gang
17. Snooki from Jersey Shore

Or maybe not Russia:

Uh, I'm going to guess she's talking about intelligence agencies from other nations (which hopefully doesn't include Russia, itself).

So, she's admitting that foreign intelligence services are working to influence this election?

Wait, didn't we "Reset" with the Russians shortly after Obama took office?

And in a debate way back in 2012, Obama said:  "When you were asked what's the biggest geopolitical threat facing America, you said 'Russia,' not Al Qaeda, you said 'Russia.' The nineteen eighties are now calling to ask for their foreign-policy back, because the cold war has been over for twenty years."

And wasn't it transmitted to Vladmir that "After his election he'd have more flexibility."

But now, Putin and the Russians are back to being 10 ft tall and unbeatable ??  How did that happen ??

The MSM and *let's not go there* are all aghast when Trump indicates in the debate and elsewhere that the electoral system is rigged and the outcome may be illegitimate, but no great outrage is met when HRC indicates that the electoral system is being influenced by the Russians...and the outcome may be illegitimate.

Either way, it is starting to smell like a "crisis of legitimacy" is cooking on a back burner.

Or one of her servants with a 17 IQ.

Even if it is foreign intel, how many of them actually came to the conclusion independently?

"We determined this by waiting to see who the Poles said it was."

It depends on what she means by "intelligence services", because she probably doesn't understand the definition and could be including many subgroups. NCIS for example, has an I/CI branch (strategic support) that might investigate cyber intrusions, but they're not really an "intelligence service". If you include that level, there's a hell of a lot more than 17.

Or maybe Hillary is just saying a convenient lie that sounds good in the short term, but can't be disproven until after the election and she won't care either way.

....but maybe that is too obvious and realistic.   =D

I have to wonder if 15 or 16  agencies read another's report & wrote the same in theirs, just to look like they're busy.
Oh, and at least 15 redundant agencies. "Where to cut? Where to cut? "

I wouldn't jump on that bandwagon yet. Finding an email in the Podesta dump that says Podesta lost his phone at some point, somewhere, in a cab isn't the same as saying that's how the breech happened. It means Podesta lost his phone once.

Unless there's more info out there?

If I'm investigating the cause of a fire and find a note that the resident was wondering whether the self clean setting on the oven would strip the paint off some propane canisters, I'm sure going to get suspicious it started in the kitchen.

Eh---the string of coincidence that would have to happen for a lost cellphone to lead to a data breach is actually pretty far fetched.

1. It was actually lost, not misplaced
2. Whoever found it/took it gives darn
3. Whoever found it, and gave a darn, cared about the data on it (unlikely)
4. They knew Podesta was important enough to matter (very unlikely)
5. They knew how to get the data on the phone (possible, if the phone had no passcode at all, extremely unlikely otherwise)
6. Once they had the data, they distributed it in a useful way

So either Podesta was specifically targeted and someone decided to use meatspace to get his data by stealing his phone (unlikely, but possible) or a random dude grabbed a random phone and then a string of very unlikely events took place that led to data being sent to Wikileaks.

I am in no way defending Clinton, or the US intelligence community, or anything like that. I honestly, really, don't give a crap. I'm in IT security though, so this particular thing has grabbed my interest and I find it far more plausible that someone (no idea who, since I'm not privy to any forensic data about the case) deliberately hacked into his email account than the phone scenario.

To follow up on that, the entirety of the Clinton technology related scandal package has been in the news cycle for IT security since before it even hit the MSM much and it's been talked to death, so I feel moderately informed.

I just don't want anyone to assume I'm on a "side" here--I'm not.

Not assuming on a side.  Expert analysis and experience is highly valued here.

Now, granted, I wouldn't have recognized John Podesta, prior to this, if he came up and bit me on the ass.

However, if I lived in DC and found a phone of one of the powerful, I'd be selling that in a heartbeat to some news agency or wikileaks.

It was even less than that--the DNI said it, and since he runs/coordinates all 17...all those agencies supposedly agree on it (or he made it up)

:)  I gathered from context the meaning of "*let's not go there*" but just to be absolutely correct, I checked it out and found this amusing  little bit embedded in the wiki article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/*let's not go there*

Quote
A conservative news site in Spain translated *let's not go there* to cornuservador, stating that: "Republicans are nothing but the 'controlled opposition' completely in the hands of the political left, whose only aspiration is for those rare occasions when those hands pat them on the head, and the media rewards them with the coveted adjective 'moderate': these are the cornuservadores."

"Cornu" relates to horns, as in "wearing the 'horns' of cuckoldry."  And as in "cornucopia," the horn of plenty.

Sorry, but I thought that was worth a chuckle.

NSA Whistleblower: US Intelligence Worker Likely Behind DNC Leaks, Not Russia

According to the 26-year-old entrepreneur, “[w]e have the information. … If the F.B.I. asks, we are ready to supply the I.P. addresses, the logs, … but nobody contacted us.”

“It’s like nobody wants to sort this out,” he added.

After learning that two renters using the nicknames Robin Good and Dick Robin had used his servers to hack the Arizona and Illinois voting systems, Fomenko released a statement saying he learned about the problem through the news and shut down the two users down shortly after.

While he told the New York Times he doesn’t know who the hackers are, he used his statement to report that the hackers are not Russian security agents.
“The analysis of the internal data allows King Servers to confidently refute any conclusions about the involvement of the Russian special services in this attack,” he said on September 15, the New York Times reported.

During an interview on Aaron Klein’s Sunday radio program, former high-ranking NSA intelligence official-turned-whistleblower, William Binney, discussed the alleged Russian involvement in our elections, suggesting the cyber attack against the DNC may not have originated from the Russian government. Instead, Binney says, a “disgruntled U.S. intelligence worker” is likely behind the breach.

Puts forth an interesting theory re. why the NSA would release the info ...
