Based on some local newspaper articles some years ago, I believe British Columbia in Canada may have a similar law or at least they were considering it at one time. I believe it was in response to certain immigrant populations doing abortions only for sex selection. Some of those populations put a lot of emphasis on having male babies.
That was the given reason for the AZ law, but the sponsors of the bill only gave examples of it happening in China and India.
Mind you, I am not a fan of sex/race-selective abortion, but this type of thought crime legislation, especially one that comes with felony charges and a 7-year prison sentence, is the wrong way to go about addressing the issue.
