Starring Alan Tuydk as an alien who crash lands on Earth in the Colorado Mountains while on a mission
It starts out kind of grim, where he kills a vacationing doctor and assumes his form. He keeps to himself until the local sheriff calls him in to examine the body of a murder victim... the town doctor.
Now as the only doctor in a town that's cut off by weather for a good portion of the year, he has to interact with his fellow townspeople as the new doctor...
But, as to be expected, there are plot twists...
The 9 year old son of the town Mayor is one of the 1 in 1 million humans who can see his true alien form.
Oh, and did I mention that the whole time he's doing this he's searching the mountains for his lost payload... a device intended to trigger a human species extinction event...
It's actually turning out to be quite amusing.
-
I watched the first episode, recorded the second. So far I enjoy it enough to actually watch the second one soon.

If he doesn't have his little-green-man-card he needs to GTFO.
-
It's no leaf in the wind but it is better than most of the crap on tv.
-
I saw most of the episode at my parents house. Looked pretty good. I need to find out how I can watch it since I don't have cable.
We also watched the first two episodes of Pacific. That is pretty good also.

Looks like YT has ep 1 & 2 up

Thanks. I also saw it on Amazon, but for $25 for the season.
-
I started to write a couple long-ish reviews, decided instead to just say I like it. It's not the early seasons of TWD, but it's good enough.
-
"Whiskey is allowing me make smart rational decisions"
-
My SciFi hating wife LIKES it!
-
I'm liking it so far but I don't think it has staying power.
I can really relate to the alien.
-
"Whiskey is allowing me make smart rational decisions"
My wife hates that it is true for me.
-
Watched the first episode and enjoyed it for the most part. Alan Tudyk can be a real hoot, and I think he was a good choice to play the alien.
-
I watched the first two episodes Friday night, and rewatched them again yesterday afternoon between projects.
I found myself liking it even more than I did on the first watching.
I think it does have staying power, given that SyFy isn't exactly a powerhouse for new programming.
-
"Whiskey is allowing me make smart rational decisions"
Yeah, I laughed out loud at that, too.
And when he propped up the snow shovel between the dead doctor's toes...
-
May not have been alien, but I liked how he was trying to bowl. "This is easy" and you see him overlaying graphical lines of where the ball will travel with formulas. Then he actually tries to do it. =D
-
Watched the second episode on my laptop laying in bed. Laugh-out-loud funny at times. Really looking forward to the third.
-
We binge watched the first 3 episodes. It's quirky enough that makes me want to watch more. I laughed out loud a couple times as well.
-
This is a great show!
There is no one that could pull off that role other than Tudyk.
-
I just watched the first 2 episodes. I like it. Also saw that the SyFy channel has Rod Serling's Night Gallery and I watched the one with "The Funeral" and "The Nature of the Enemy." Now looking for "The Tune in Dan's Cafe", although I've watched enough TV for tonight.
-
This thread convinced me to add it to my DVR library. I'll start watching as soon as I wrap up the last few episodes of this season's The Expanse.
-
Just binge watched the first three episodes.....
Seriously, I don't think they could have picked anyone better than Tudyk for this. His performance is awesome.
-
How are you guys seeing the third episode? It's not on TV until tomorrow evening.
-
Episode 3 is available on syfy.com.
I liked the first episode, I'll continue watching it as I can.
-
Well crap! Time to get my Resident Alien fix!
-
How are you guys seeing the third episode? It's not on TV until tomorrow evening.
I loaded the free SyFy app on my Roku. (that's where I found Night Gallery last night) I haven't watched the 3rd episode yet, but I think it was available.
-
Cool and interesting twist at the end of episode 3. Going to keep watching this show.
-
I'm watching episode 3 right now. The audio is out of sync; about 2 seconds late. It's very annoying.
-

It wasn't that way for me. I wonder what might fix that in the future? Get completely out of the browser and start watching it over, perhaps?
-

That usually fixes it for me.
-
"Get completely out of the browser and start watching it over, perhaps?"
I've only ever seen that once or twice, but that's exactly what I've done. Usually fixes it no problem.
-
I was tempted to stay up last night and watch the third episode, but it started at 10 pm and I knew that I'd not make it.
Can't wait to watch it tonight!
After a Zoom meeting  and a new episode of Young Sheldon =)
-
Episode 3 was good, but not in the same class as the first 2. Got to learn a lot about Asta, though. The whole thing between Max and his Mom, though... poor kid, having his Mom hug him in the lunch room.
Still, a couple of laugh out loud moments...
-
Crapola. It looks like SyFy has now made it necessary that you be a cable subscriber to stream Resident Alien. For the first four episodes you could watch it with commercials if you were not a cable subscriber.
We cut the cable cord years ago. Looks like no more Resident Alien for me, at least from legitimate sources.

Yep, it's not available on my ISP either. That sucks. I hate when they do that.

I do have a cable subscription, but I'm not at home. Any idea how i sign in with a browser? (like I did with my Roku back home) Let's see if I can figure it out. I wondered why episode 5 wasn't available last night; thought it might just be a 24 hour delay
-
I watched the first 2 (or 3?) episodes on YouTube, but that's all I could get. They even made those episodes private, and disappeared them from the viewing history.
-
That really blows.
Pretty soon it probably will only be available if you subscribe to their particular streaming package. It's ludicrous how every channel now has independent streaming packages that you have to pay for above and beyond cable (if you subscribe).
Screw that crap.
I still get SyFy via my cable subscription, and that's hopefully not going to change.
-
I was able to watch episode 5 on my Roku after signing up at syfy.com/activatenbcu. I got one free credit for signing up, which I used for RA E5. I haven't looked into how much it would cost for more credits. I'm not willing to pay more for screen entertainment than I am already.
I didn't realize syfy was owned by NBC. Which makes it part of the Disney empire.
-
Disney owns ABC not NBC.
-
I've got SyFy on Sling, not sure if that will make a difference.
But yeah, the whole idea of having to subscribe to a dozen or more different streaming services to get (sort of)decent programing is a non-starter for me.
I don't see it getting any better anytime soon.
-
Disney owns ABC not NBC.
My mistake. My googlefu was lacking this morning. Syfy is owned by NBC, NBC is still resisting the Disney empire.
-

Considering you used to have to sign up for a 1 or 2 year agreement to get cable, I don't know if things are worse. At least with all the streaming services, you can normally sign up for 1 month and then cancel it. I figure I am still way ahead of what I used to spend when I had DirecTV.
For Resident Alien, the alternative might be to wait until the season is over. Maybe it will show up on other services. I will have to look up the SciFi channel website.
I was already planning to sign up with at least one new service as Godzilla vs Kong movie will be streamed this Spring along with the Synder cut of Justine League. I want to see those.
-
I've always felt cable companies could do good business by offering packages of specific numbers of channels and letting the consumer choose which they'd prefer. They could offer 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 channel packages, or whatever, and charge accordingly. It would also add more competitiveness to the production market.
-
Amazon Prime Video offers Resident Alien for $1.99 an episode, $23.99 for the season. I may buy it by the episode for the rest of season one given that I've already seen the first four shows.
-
We have sci fy as part of the overpriced comcast package. We watched episode 5 last night on On Demand.
-
I just finished the first episode. Gonna start episode 2 in a few minutes, so yeah, I guess I like it.
-
Still haven't had a chance to watch last week's episode.... Grrrr!
-
Season 1 ending:
"This is some real bullshit!"
-
I'm two episodes behind.
-
I hope we get a season 2.
-
I hope we get a season 2.
It has been confirmed.
-
I will start over when I get back to MN; maybe watch it with Wife. I've seen the first 3 or 4 episodes, but even tho' I have a cable subscription I can't get the newer episodes at syfy.com here -- probably because I'm not on my home cable network.
-
Today's "seasons" are WAY too short - I remember when a "season" had dozens of episodes.
The final episode actually made the alien a more sympathetic character.
SPOILER BELOW IN TINY WHITE FONT!
It turns out the doctor the alien killed and whose identity he subsequently assumed was actually the person who murdered the town doctor by poisoning his insulin. So the alien killed a killer.

Yes, that was a nice twist.
Also, yes on the seasons. I was mad when everyone started doing 13 episode seasons. Now they are down to 10. Pretty soon we'll be like the Brits, with six episode seasons, with new seasons every couple of years. Hollywood is fat and lazy.

On the other hand, Hollywood is also full of crappy writers. If they can't write more "good" episodes, more won't be better.
-
I stopped watching it when they started charging for it. . . .
-
If anyone hadn't gotten around to watching this, Amazon has the series at $10 to buy for streaming.
-
I'd forgotten that I started this thread. All in all I give Resident Alien VERY high marks. A very good intermingling of drama and comedy and some exceptionally funny moments over all.
I'm really looking forward to the second season as I really want to know what the motivation was for the doctor.

Right there with ya. It was definitely a fun watch - even the Mrs, who doesn't really care all that much for sci-fi type shows, enjoyed it. And Alan Tudyk really was just about perfect as the doctor/alien.
Definitely hoping for a season 2.

This is some bullshit!

They say memory is the 2nd thing to go. Can't remember what the 1st is.

Well, if my experience is typical, I'd say the prostate...
-
Because of various discounts and having purchased a few episodes separately, I was able to get the rest of the season for free. Now my wife can watch it with me when she gets a chance.
-
Well, if my experience is typical, I'd say the prostate...

I don't want to hear about yours. ;)

Resident Alien Season 2 Trailer (HD) Alan Tudyk series

Awesome!
While I was away on vacation over Christmas my DVR picked up the entire first season again. Syfy must have had a marathon.
I need to watch it again.
-
Well, it was on last night. I think they must have all new writers and they are still in grade school. What a disappointment. It was a jumbled up mess. I'll give it one more episode.
-
Ah crap, now I'm worried...
-
Swmbo went to bed about half way through. I endured to the end. Holding my nose.
-
I finally got around to watching it last night on the DVR. Thankfully I could fast forward through the commercials so I only gave away 42 minutes of so of my life I will never get back.

I'm watching the last episode of The Expanse tonight and was gonna watch this show tomorrow. You guys aren't giving me a lot of hope. I loved last season, but you guys and reviews I have read are not making things sound good for Season 2.
It's only the first episode, so maybe things can improve.
-

That is my hope. I think they tried to cover too much ground to end last season and start this season with a bunch of weird unrelated crap thrown in, or maybe the start of an extra 3 or 4 story lines. Too jumbled to be coherent and I hope it gets better, I really liked the first season.
bob
-
So what's the deal - are they turning this into some kind of chick flick feminist series now? Episode three was over the top for me in that regard. Harry was practically a background character.
-
I am so disappointed with the series after 2 episodes, I actually forgot to watch it last night.
-
I'm planning on watching the three episodes from this season tonight, but man, you guys are scaring me.
-
I'm planning on watching the three episodes from this season tonight, but man, you guys are scaring me.
Well, the first one was not as bad as I had anticipated after getting myself wound up here, but it was not great. The second one was completely "meh". This third one was just awful though. I did a quick check and it seemed to even get the IMDB crowd worked up. It was woker than the most woke Netflix original that I have almost shot my TV over. If this is the direction they're going, frankly, I'm done.
-
Did this show leave SciFi and get picked up by Lifetime?

By this point of season one, Resident Alien had already been renewed for season two. Crickets so far this season. I think SyFy is learning the whole "Go Woke, Go Broke" thing. I have my doubts on there being a third season.
-
I still haven't watched any of it.
-
Last night's episode was better than last week's disaster, but still not up to season 1 par, and we still had to deal with a token gay injun, climate change, indians are better and wiser than white people, "women's feelings", etc.
-

So, why are you watching this at all?
It's Steve's favorite show, and Wednesday nights he controls the remote.
-

Because last season it was awesome and I have an ever dwindling hope that they're going to come to their senses.

They haven't learned their lesson. Not yet at least. It is a trend with nearly streaming service that if they have a successful first season, the vultures take over and start using it as a platform for social messaging. That takes precedence over plot/story and the show goes down hill. I think Hollywood knows if they make a new show with their social messaging from the start, it will go no where.
-
I'll admit to watching it. I am hoping the writing somehow becomes close to what they had last season but so far it pretty much sucks. I think after the pseudo-lecturing we got last from last nights episode on how whites pretty much suck and are ruining the planet I am done. The cats will just have to watch reruns of Farscape with me.

Meanwhile looks like we have Lord of the
Rings Woke brewing over on Amazon. Some of the preview stuff they've released so far looks bad, real bad.

I'm surprised that Utoob hasn't canceled that guy's account, erased his videos, and blown up his house and car for that.
Although a lesbian box munching sword swinging Galadriel doing hobbit trains does have a certain porno charm about it.
-
Other YT videos going into more detail. Even one I saw by a black reviewer had serious issues with black Elves and Dwarves. The producer said she wants it to reflect the real world.
Amazon has reportedly sunk a billion dollars into that mess and I just got an e-mail informing me of my prime member price hike. Sigh.
-
Good points in the video. Tolkien himself described elves as a "tall, fair race". With "fair" being the definition at his time of "fair-skinned". Also all dwarves, including females, are bearded. But then you might not see that the dwarf was black. As I recall, there was a big to-do about the Uruk Hai in the movies being played by minorities but you couldn't tell they were minorities because of the makeup, so that was racist.
They need to do a remake of Roots with multinational slaves.
-
They've messed with the wrong fan base

They're a race that lives underground. Why would any of them be black?
-
Since we're talking about other series, Space Force sucks too. I had somewhat high hopes, but it's a long way for Steve Carroll from The Office (from which like 50% of the episodes would not make it on the air today). Last season was barely tolerable with the multicultural shtick, but the first couple episodes of this season are just stupid. Plus we now have "Xyler", the super smart, too cool for the room, gender indeterminate scientist. Gimme a break.

https://youtu.be/9QJbAbe2yyo?t=415 That's an extraordinarily good idea.

So here's something funny: Just for kicks I typed "resident alien woke" into the googlez to see what would come up and if more people were complaining about this season. There were a bunch of Reddit threads on it. Every single one of them was locked and censored. Not allowed to talk about "woke" there.
-
They're a race that lives underground. Why would any of them be black?
Coal dust?
My Grandfather was a railroader. He was in the Altoona yards one day and got run over by a box car. Dragged along the tracks, beaten up pretty badly, but nothing permanent.
When he woke up they had him in the colored ward of the local hospital because he had been so thoroughly dragged along the track bed in all of the coal dust they assumed he was black.
He wasn't particularly pleased.

And I've read several Clive Cussler books.

So, this weekend I basically binged the first 7 or so episodes of Resident Alien.
It's... uhm... yeah.
I'm still enjoying it, and I actually see the logic of some of the story line (Harry's becoming more human so he's learning about being more human, often the hard way) but yeah, the woke touchy feely stuff is a bit out of hand. And EVERYONE is getting in touch with their vaginal sides, it looks like -- the sheriff, the mayor, Asta...
Yeah, just a little heavy handed, really.
-
By the second episode of the first season, Resident Alien had been renewed for a second season. Still no word on a third season now that we're seven episodes into the second season. That speaks volumes about the ratings in my opinion. Another "Go woke, go broke" show from Hollywood.
ETA: Rotten Tomatoes showing a 51% rating. Big drop from the season one at 90% "all audience" score. Not good.
-
I stopped after the 2nd episode season 2. No reason to continue. It sucked. Last year it was one of my favorites. :old:
-
Yeah, it definitely has come down, but I'm still, for the most part, enjoying it, so I'm going to stick it out.
-
Second half of the second season starts August 10.
-
Second half of the second season starts August 10.
I'll be curious to see the direction. I'm not sure if all episodes were in the can and they're just releasing the last half later, or if they were still writing the final episodes for the season. The last episode of the first half was not quite as bad as the early season disaster episodes. Maybe they learned their lesson. Though I doubt it.
-
Yeah, the first half of the second season was sure not what I expected.
I'm not as against it as you apparently are, but it was preachy, judgy, and wokey.
-
Yeah, the first half of the second season was sure not what I expected.
I'm not as against it as you apparently are, but it was preachy, judgy, and wokey.
Yeah, that "girl power" episode (#3) got me so agitated that I'm probably overly-harshly judging the others.
-
I thought that one was an absolute hoot, actually.
-
So it's back for the second half of the season. Whether they listened to everyone who has had it with the woke crap, or whether this is just a one off episode for the season, all I can say is, "Welcome back Resident Alien!"
This episode went back to what made it great in season 1. There was literally ZERO woke content, Harry had tons of screen time again, and I was literally laughing out loud through the entire episode. Even characters who were annoying to me back in season 1 were making me laugh in this episode.
I really hope that this is a new (old) direction for the show.
-
OK, that's really good to hear. I recorded the episode and am going to watch it this evening while I eat dinner.
And I know all the woke crap pissed people off... It aggravated me a little bit, as well, but apparently not as much as you.
And I still think the Girl Power episode was an absolute hoot. That one had me laughing out loud, especially where Skank pisses in the potted plant in the town hall.
I've actually seen that happen in college, so yeah, that made me laugh out loud.
-
In the latest (Aug 10) episode I thought Asta overdid it with the guilt trip over killing a bad guy, and I laughed out loud (I don't do that too often) at the utterly practical, matter-of-fact way D'Arcy used some of her local knowledge (like the lack of cameras at a local seedy hotel) to deal with the body.
-
In the latest (Aug 10) episode I thought Asta overdid it with the guilt trip over killing a bad guy,
Yeah, that was the one sort of "lefty my feelingz" thing in the episode. I'll take that all day long though if they keep things going like this. I don't mind a little lefty woke being thrown in, just like I would hope lefties wouldn't mind a little 'Merica thrown in. They just need to stop turning either the left or right faucet on full blast. An episode like this last one seems like it should be enjoyable by all political viewpoints, since it was pretty apolitical.

I watched season 1 but none of season 2 yet. Who is Darcy? Is that the deputy who's smart than the sheriff but gets no respect? Or the doctor's assistant; I think she's Indian or half Indian? Or the bar owner?
I'm in Texas again dealing with family medical stuff. Can't watch it here, will have to wait until I get back to MN and have access to syfy, unless it's also on Peacock and I can watch it on the Internet. (I've now actually been in Texas more than in Minnesota this year, and all of it unpleasant.)

Yeah, that's not lefty being tossed in for *expletive deleted*ck's sake. That's a human reaction many have to taking another human's life.
I think that was a quite realistic piece of writing, and I also think it tracks quite well with Asta's entire story line.
She comes across as quite tough but in reality is quite sensitive.
I've known a lot of nurses who exude a hard-bitten outer shell but are far from that inside. My Mother was an OR nurse and had a very hard outer shell, but she could be extremely sensitive. The surest way to get Mom to open up? Dogs.
-
OK, that said, I'm not sure why, but that episode didn't hit the mark for me.
I didn't find it to be particularly funny (there were a few good moments, like Skank stripping down in the hot tub where the body was found), but overall? Meh.
-
I'm watching S2E1 now. I think I need to go back and watch the last episode of S1, I've forgotten too much. "This is some bullshit!"

We tried to watch it again when the 2nd half of season 2 started up a couple weeks ago. We got bored and turned it off again.

I'm warming up to it. Really liked the second episode of the second half of the season.

I can't watch the first season again unless I signup for a subscription service to Peacock. (I have Peacock, but just the free version) So I read the S1 episode synopses online and continued watching S2 on syfy. The 3rd episode, I think it was called "Girls' Night" was pretty bad. If I had started with that episode I think I would have just turned it off and found something else to watch. The first 2 episodes were pretty good and hopefully S2E3 was just a one-off wokefest and they got it out of their system and can get back to the story.

I am running a week behind and so far with season 2 I am .... meh...., so far I am not impressed and even less so after watching the episode from last week. I only watch it at this point because I still have hopes it will kind of go back to its roots from season 1 but it seems it is destined to careen off on a new, touchy-feely direction. I don't know if they are trying to pull in a different demographic (women in particular) or not. With season 1 I would watch it within a day or so, this season if I even remember it is recorded I will eventually get to it.

Time to bring it back to the top so those who want to binge watch the first two seasons before season 3 will have close to a week to do it. Season 3 starts Feb 14 on SyFy and Peacock streaming.

I need to set it up to record on my Hulu cloud DVR.

Two episodes into the season and so far so good!
I'm really liking it so far.

Considering how Season 2 ended, I really was expecting more exposition of what was going on in the secret underground facility Linda Hamilton's character took our RA into last year. About all I got was that our RA didn't like the way Linda's people were shuffling papers.

It's two episodes in.
Give it time.

Crap! I wanted to go back and watch a couple of episodes from seasons 1 and 2 because I enjoyed them.
I though the entire series was streaming on Hulu.
Nope.
Peacock.
Gotta think about this.

It appears the older seasons are on Netflix now as well.
I haven't watched the new season yet. I've got the episodes recording and will probably start watching in a couple of weeks.

I almost dropped a hysterically funny spoiler from the second episode.
I just about fell off my sofa I was laughing so hard.
