Any electricians in the house?
« on: January 06, 2006, 06:36:44 AM »
Coupla things:
Firstly, I've got an on-the-side electrician.  He's Lic'ed and bonded but is the brother of a friend.  He gave me a shopping list over the phone, and I screwed up writing a few things down:
For phone outlet boxes, what kind of boxes do I need?
For smoke detector wiring boxes, what do I need?
Thanks!

You could use a number of different boxes for each of those applications, you'd probably better call back and get the exact ones he has in mind.

I'm guessing it will probably be the kind you run wiring to, and use swtches in. But I'm just guessin'...

I just run wire for phone and leave out the box, if you are putting phones on studs pre drywall, just get brackets for phonejacks, no box needed.  For Smoke dectector get some regular outlet boxes, single gang 2.5" deep.

Then again for "Smoke" dectection, you need to be able to see or hear a beat up ol' Ford F150 from 3 miles
