What to do in New Zealand?

I am going on a work related trip to Auckland New Zealand for one week and will stay an extra week just for fun.

Does anyone have any experience with New Zealand? What to go do and see?

I've been told by several that a helicopter ride over the glacier(s) is probably the one thing that MUST be experienced. Other than that I know little else.

I'm told that Christchurch has a Hobbit petting zoo-if you bring them small pastries, they'll do tricks.  Wink
