Best spyware protection for purchase?
« on: January 09, 2006, 12:06:21 PM »
Was wondering what the best spyware protection/detection program for sale is.

Something that is potent, finds malware and spyware, and is easy to work.  I was looking at Lavasoft Ad-Aware.  Also, have Spy Doctor loaded on the pc now and am contemplating purchasing that instead of Lavasoft.  Tired of loading free stuff that only works to a point.

Have you tried Microsoft's Anti-Spyware Beta release?

Really? I didn't mention it earlier because I figured that everyone had heard of it. Well, here's a link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en

I run Ad-Aware SE Personal (freebie) and Sypbot Search and Destroy.
I also dumped Internet Explorer for Netscape 7.2 and Firefox 1.5
Perhaps the biggest change I implemented was the use of Hosts Manager 1.0.1.1.  Hosts manager is far, far more effective than anything Microsoft put out.  Use of hosts manager killed all but a precious few pop-ups.  Go to www.mvps.org

I run Pest Patrol. I started with their standalone version. Last fall I upgraded to the "live" version of the product. Seems to work very well and updates automatically.
