it's that time of year again, when I punish my body to raise money for the MS Society. They changed the course this year. I did the 100/50 option (actually 95/53). Between the rain and my work schedule the last two months, I've barely ridden since my Blue Ridge Parkway century in April. You can lose a lot of fitness in 2 months. :(
I did rather poorly on Saturday. I was slow and even had to walk a bit on one brutal hill (FreeState Rd, yet another reason to dislike "free staters".
). I almost bailed on Sunday because I wasn't sure I would have the energy to finish, but I waited till Sunday morning to decide. I wasn't hurting this morning and my legs felt ok, if a little heavy, so I went ahead and did the ride. I was a bit sluggish in the beginning, but after 7-8 miles, my legs and joints loosened up and I got into a groove (something I couldn't seem to do Saturday). I was fast enough to actually increase my overall average.
Next up...The Reston Century.
