Went clamming today....
« on: July 11, 2009, 09:46:31 PM »
So the wife and I went for razor clams for the first time today.  Didn't catch much, apparently if we'd gone a couple miles further north we would have limited out in about 15 minutes.   Got them home, cleaned, breaded and deep fried....

Meh...  I know some people think that these things are like manna from heaven, but frankly we weren't that impressed.   I think I'll stick w/ clam chowder.....  Made by Mo's here on the Oregon Coast....  :)

Where'd you go clamming, AD?  Seaside or thereabouts?  I've been a number of times over the years. Usually it's fun as long as you're careful not to slice a digit.  Too bad you didn't enjoy eating them.
SWMBO had steamers for the first time two years ago at Tidal Raves in Depot Bay.  She absolutely loves those things, now.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Ahhh Sunset... I grew around there.  I've had good luck on the Peter Iredale.

Next time take pictures, I don't get to the coast as much as I'd like since moving to Portland and always love a reminder of the coastal beauty.

Damnit, now I miss the ocean, maybe I'll take a roadtrip today.   =(

Shoot me your e-mail.  We got a few pics from yesterday, and a few more from when we were up at the Iredale a few weeks ago.  And we're going camping up there next weekend.  I'll shoot you a bunch of pics....  :)  BTW, the Iredale is mostly just a boiler and a few pieces of scrap iron now.  It's pretty amazing....

Yeah I've seen the Iredale like that before.  IIRC they dug it out awhile back, to no avail.  The ocean is powerful to say the least, especially on some of those crazy winter nights.

I imagine the beach by the South Jetty would be good for clamming, I'll have to ask some buddies where they go.

I miss the Oregon coast... I have a picture as a child of the sun setting behind the wreck of the Peter Iredale and me standing there watching it.  My grandparents took me on a sightseeing trip up and down the coast, culminating in Astoria since I loved the Goonies movie that came out then.  The wreck was pretty well pronounced when I was last there.

I'd be interested in seeing a pic of the wreck now, 25 years later.

We dig butter clams out of the nearby lagoon, but right now the PSP toxin level is 250mcg/100g. The safe level is <80mcg/100g. Last summer it was up to 1084mcg/100g and the red tide was so thick it looked like someone had slaughtered a shitload of baby dolphins in the water.  :O  =D
