Vermont towns vote to arrest Bush and Cheney
« on: March 05, 2008, 04:21:18 PM »
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Voters in two Vermont towns on Tuesday approved a measure that would instruct police to arrest President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for "crimes against our Constitution," local media reported.

The nonbinding, symbolic measure, passed in Brattleboro and Marlboro in a state known for taking liberal positions on national issues, instructs town police to "extradite them to other authorities that may reasonably contend to prosecute them."

Vermont, home to maple syrup and picture-postcard views, is known for its liberal politics.

State lawmakers have passed nonbinding resolutions to end the war in Iraq and impeach Bush and Cheney, and several towns have also passed resolutions of impeachment. None of them have caught on in Washington.

Bush has never visited the state as president, though he has spent vacations at his family compound in nearby Maine.

Roughly 12,000 people live in Brattleboro, located on the Connecticut River in the state's southeastern corner. Nearby Marlboro has a population of roughly 1,000.

Unfortunately it's completely symbolic, but funny none the less.

Brattleboro is Berkeley East. We try to pretend they don't exist.

But they can carry concealed without a permit. So it can't be that bad...

That's the rest of Vermont, which is rural. If it were up to Brattleboro, they'd take everyone's guns, make them into a peace symbol, and give to Hugo Chavez.

So... Vermont is composed of exiles from California (evil Bush/Cheney/KBR/Halliburton) and Montana (Ron Paulites)?

Almost.  How about John McCain and Bill Clinton, both of whom are directly responsible for obvious infringements of Constitutional freedoms?  Or why stop there?  Why start with Bush and Cheney at all?

I suspect VT has replaced CA as the land of fruits and nuts.
Isnt the Socialist Bernie Sanders the senator or something from VT?

I'm writing up a proposal to be submitted to my town at the next meeting.

It calls for arresting anyone from Brat-boro, VT who drives into the town.   grin

I figure we can get them for reckless driving, since they are obviously mentally incompetent and as such, a a hazard to others.

Basically, I say to h#ll with those moonbats.  It looks like my semiannual trips to VT are over.  I guess I'll start going to NH.

why would they extradite them to "other authorities"? other authorities haven't charged them with anything. it seems they should put orders of extradition out to all other police agencies for the crimes they have been charged with in their town. maybe i'm not aware of how the process works.

to me the idea of arresting the POTUS seems simply absurd. but now i have to question myself. if this wasn't simply a matter of protest, what are the chances an order of extradition would ever be used on the president? if it were an average citizen, wouldn't they be flown to vermont (if the computer showed they were wanted) with a routine traffic violation? why have we set the president up as an untouchable figure, instead of being an accountable servant of the people?

If Congress were doing its job, impeachment proceedings would have begun over a year ago. But they've got other more important matters-like whether some baseball player used steroids.

In any event event, Bush and Cheney become more irrelevant with each passing day as they reach the end of their term.  America's long national nightmare will soon be over and cleanup of the mess they leave behind can begin.

All we have to watch is that those two fools don't invade/attack Iran in the meantime.

If I was GWB I'd make plans for a press conference there, *just* to piss everyone off.

Ooh, that's a good idea.

They wouldn't do that, they think Israel is evil and the Palestinians are oppressed, remember? If anything, they'd invite the UN.

Arrests are based on popular vote in Brattleboro?

Yep; time for them to leave the big stage and the next act follows. Whether it be Obama, Clinton or McCain - we can be confident that they are not going to spoil the show.

Arrests should be based on crimes.  200 years ago Bush and Cheney would have been swinging from some stout oak limb.  But you people today only care about how many declining dollars your multinational corporate masters suffer to include in your paychecks.

Pathetic.

You must really want President Pelosi . . . bad.  shocked

. . . 200 years ago Bush and Cheney would have been swinging from some stout oak limb.  . . .
Ditto for Clinton . . . and Carter . . . and LBJ . . . and Truman . . . and FDR . . .

But more likely, they never would have gotten within spitting distance of the office. And we wouldn't be looking at Hillary/Barack/McCain as the last three serious contenders . . . <barf icon>
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

Hate to break it to ya Riley, but if the Founders came back they'd hang every single politician in Washington, and probably %99 of the state and local ones too. The Constitution has been a moot point to the fed.gov for a hell of a lot longer than any of us have been alive, and the states bend over to keep getting federal $.

If the Founders came back, they'd have a map of DC and a book on nuclear physics for Mr. Franklin to "tinker" with....
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

If the Founders were here today, half of them would be condemned as slave owners and the other half would be condemned for not appreciating the right of women to vote.  Their other ideas would be written off as loony by the media.
