Title: A Guy Walks Out of a Cabelas...
Post by: Ben on July 08, 2017, 10:40:10 PM
With four ARs. How the hell does that happen? The second link seems to indicate broad daylight and business hours. I've been to that Cabelas. It's in a big mall. Funny that apparently another shop owner suspected something (there was beeping under the guy's coat) but Cabelas was clueless.

Typical meth head (or one of Boyd Crowder's henchmen) from the mug shot:

Drat! I wish my local Cabela's would start selling "high-powered assault rifles."  Kicks rocks.

Hell, I could buy one at my local farm store store.

Someone at Cabela's firearm counter needs to lose their job.

I always thought .22 was "Smallbore" and .30 was "High Power."

Your farm store sells machine guns?  Cool!

That ad doesn't list any Title II firearms for sale.  I browsed their website, but there is no mention of them being a SOT FFL, so I am guessing they don't sell assault rifles.

Aw come on,  I thought you actually didn't know about Rural King, (response to RKL's farm store comment).    Not "literal machinegun" autism.

The Cabelas near me does have some rifles on racks off to the right of the gun counter.  I can't remember if there are cables attached to them.

The surveillance photo reminded me of Dickie Bennett.  I wonder if the suspect walked with a limp.

I always thought .22 was "Smallbore" and .30 was "High Power."

I think it's primer vs rimfire, for that designation. Could be black powder vs smokeless powder.

So that could make a gallery gun chambered for .22 Short a "high-powered rifle"?

You know what I noticed in this?

He stole two only on this occasion and had stolen the other two over the past few weeks.

So, the store had lost $4K+ in merchandise and hadn't noticed they were missing until he was caught red-handed while trying to steal two at once.

That strike anyone as a little odd? Would Walmart not notice if someone had absconded with at $2K+ TV?

Additionally, he was caught by "another shop owner". The thief did some more shopping after stealing the two guns!?

So much that doesn't make sense here.

They probably wouldn't notice until an inventory was done.

That's what I thought, but would they only do a monthly inventory? From the story (which I realize may be mistaken), it seems it had been several weeks Ah I was confused by the date he was arrested and the date of the theft. He only stole them over the course of a week. (June 17th-June 24th)

Still goes back to the question: does retail only do monthly inventories? Anyone with familiarity able to confirm that?

I would have thought a gun store, or at least a Big Gun Store like Cabela's, would do a daily count (at least) of the guns they have on display.

I haven't been around retail in many years, but back in the pre-internet days, it was quarterly.

Good point.  I was thinking about standard retail, not something as regulated as guns.

I'm a little more surprised that they don't lock them all up in a vault when closed.

Or at least count the damn things every night at close....

We had X guns last night; we bought/received Y today; we sold Z guns today; so we should have Q number of guns.  Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
