I hate Captcha
« on: April 30, 2010, 01:37:44 PM »
Just signed up for a windows live account so as to get things that require said account. I had to go through 20 captchas before I finally got one right.  ???
Then I decided to play the audio version. If anything, it was worse.

Captcha is evil.

I love the ones that are so distorted that even real human beings can't quite read them right.

And apparently there's now malware that routes Captcha's to people as "puzzles" as in, "Solve this puzzle, and we'll send you a free $10 Amazon gift cert..." etc. then routes the answers back to the website in question so the spam-bot can get in.
I promise not to duck.

That's annoying (from a webserver-owner perspective), but pretty clever, none the less.

I use multiple anti-bot measures on my own forum registration forms, so unless a harvester like that is able to capture and redirect all of them, it won't do them any good.
Seek out wisdom in books, rare manuscripts, and cryptic poems if you will, but seek it also in simple stones and fragile herbs and in the cries of wild birds. Listen to the song of the wind and the roar of water if you would discover magic, for it is here that the old secrets are still preserved.
