He may have claimed to be targeting someone other than the cops in hopes that he might avoid some of the "slips" & "falls" he's likely to receive while incarcerated.
Wonder if the cops/city will be reimbursing the two guys that were arrested earlier. I'd imagine quite a bit of damage was done to their place during the arrest.
