The Last Man on Earth
« on: March 03, 2015, 03:43:23 PM »
Anyone see it on Sunday?

If you google it, it shows a 8.4 out of 10 rating from IMDB.

I gave it a resounding... 0 out of 10.

It both sucked and blew at the same time.

The only redeeming feature was Kirsten Schaal, who did a great job at playing the single most annoying woman in the world (not hard, since she's apparently the only one left).

I was mildly interested when I first saw it advertised, but it was one of those cases where the funniest scenes were in the promos, and the rest just sucked major amounts of ass.

Missed that.

I did catch up on my Vikings episodes.  Katheryn Winnick is awesome.

I just looked it up, it's on Hulu. After 5 minutes I decided it's a must miss.

I watched the show - I've seen worse.

But not often.

It vaguely reminded me of the #1 show on television of the future in the movie Idiocracy . . .

Charleton Heston's was much better.

... but it wasn't titled The Last Man On Earth.   ;)

Anyway, Vincent Price's movie was truer to Matheson's novel.

And don't get me started on that Will Smith debacle.

The Vincent Price version was fantastic.

The Will Smith version was meh. Good to watch once leading up to another showing of I, Robot.

As bad as it was, the Will Smith version was, it was actually truer to the original novel in at least one way. The "Who's the real monster?"-plot which was ultimately revealed to be the main theme of the book.

It was almost too subtle, since the fast rage-zombies only got humanized at the very end when you realized the lead zombie just wanted to rescue his girlfriend. And you see the big noteboard with hundreds of pictures of Will Smith's/Dr. Neville's test subjects who'd all presumably died, or been euthanized, and Neville takes a long guilty look at it.

Of course the book had two types of zombies, the fully infected feral ones, and then the adapted ones who were setting up a civilization again.
I promise not to duck.

No. You have your NS-5 run it down, but only if it's not conspiring with Viki to overthrow the government.

Well, I didn't see Will Smith anywhere in the TV show, but I thought it was OK, as TV comedies go. I had it on in the study, while I filled up the bookshelves (just remodeled). There seem to be ghey dudes in all the other shows, and at least there aren't any here. (So far.)

I thought it was OK enough that I'd like to see the next episode. That may be only because I've enjoyed Forte and Schall in other stuff.

Is there a TV series or something out now?

TV Show is completely unrelated to the movies except that everyone is dead.  This time, no zombies.

It must have been too subtle, because I missed that part. I always thought the movie had a more of a happy feel-good sugar coated hollywood ending instead of the darker and far more interesting ending that the book had.

Ok, spent the last 3 weeks binge watching this at the cigar lounge.  There were 8 of us in the bingeing group.   I found it pretty funny.  Simply because I could myself trapped with a group of fairly worthless survivors.   It took a little time to develop (along with the characters), but we all found it fairly funny and often hilarious.   Yes, both Phil #1 and Carol were fairly annoying, but I would bet that those would be the type to survive an extinction level virus.

Again, we are sad that there are only 4 seasons, as it really ends on a cliffhanger, that opens up many doors for stories in season 5.  Plus we don't have full backgrounds on some of the major characters.

And the thing is they are just as smart as the group in The Walking Dead et al.  When it comes to survival skills.

You do realize it was cancelled, right?

Not sure if you do or not given how you worded your sentence.

Yes, we know it was cancelled.  The lounge manager told us up front there are only 4 seasons.

Anyway, the next series we're going to binge is The Man in the High Castle.

The Man in the High Castle is good.  An unsurprisingly leftist bent, but if you can look past that it's quite enjoyable.

Season 3 is supposed to be out I think in October.
