Obama the Yuppie; a column by Victor Davis Hanson
« on: August 15, 2010, 11:31:42 PM »
One site I check each night is Victor Davis Hanson's. Lately his columns have seemed to be rehashes of what he wrote just a week prior.

Tonight's column about Obama's yuppy-ism is different. He makes some really good points about Obama's disconnect with the America people, and does so in some ways that I haven't seen mentioned before.

The column is here.

Meh.  It's just another way of saying that Obama's out of touch.  Old news.  It would be more interesting if he provided cites for what he's talking about.  For those of us who haven't been paying attention to where the Obamas go for vacation.

the term is buppie
It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Muppie is more appropriate.

That's a Marxist yuppie.

Wrong.  It does now.

I guess you don't understand that in Obama we have the first "bi-polar" President.  Be patient, you'll get it eventually.

Yes, that's exactly right.  The nomenklatura was the Soviet equivalent of our yuppies.  Of course they didn't have to bother with the blood, sweat, and tears of capitalism to get their caviar, yachts, and sirens of the night.  Amoral technocrats, though.

IMO, Not true.  Marxist followers are not the working class.  They are all middle class types, often disaffected in some way.

Tru nuf, that.

I just kinda think it's strange to say that there is anyone professional or upwardly mobile in a Marxist system.  There are only workers, and the only mobility is downward.

There's upward mobility for the select few in Marxist systems; someone has to rule the sweaty masses.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.  There is upward mobility, but it is all political in the party.  The Russians just replaced one form of aristocracy for another.

A very interesting analysis of what may be driving Obama in his actions and policies.  I think this one piece does a better job of explaining what we see than what VDH proposes.

A good article, Waitone, but I don't think the two articles contradict each other. The first highlights Obama's yuppie values, the second his line of political thought.

A very interesting perspective.  In the first line, though, she should replace the word "Americans" with "Obama voters."
