I just had an intense craving for pancakes - soggy with real butter and slathered in maple syrup. mmmmmm.
Methinks maybe I shouldn't have skipped lunch. Now all I can think of is hot, buttered, syrupy goodness stacked high on the plate. Thank goodness all I have at the house is lettuce and cottage cheese or I'd probably go home and eat myself silly.

I hate you.
Thank God I just ate dinner or I'd be dragging the wife and kid off to IHOP.

Ever used Jiffy cornbread mix to make pancakes? Now, that there is some goodness!

I have. Actually, we had 'em as fritters, but they're more like pancakes. Sorghum goes good on 'em.
Anybody ever use that Jim Beam maple syrup? I know where I can get some, but much as I like the bourbon, I don't know how that'll taste in syrup.

Unky Bob's Magic Flapjacks
1 1/2 C Flour
1/2 C Malto Meal
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Salt
1 Tbsp Sugar
2 Eggs, slightly beaten (best done by hand)
2 Tbsp Oil
2 C milk
Mix together the dry ingredients.
Add the liquid ingredients all at once.
Using a fork, mix until all ingredients are wet.
BATTER WILL BE LUMPY!!!!!! DO NOT OVER MIX!! (one of the most common mistakes in flapjack making).
Cook on hot griddle (400 degrees)

I remember the deal about this rabbit... his owner's Japanese and he had the rabbit balancing stuff on his head on his web site. They take that seriously over there. It seems the guy was a mite put out that Americans saw it as "office humor". It seems the man and the rabbit related pretty well with each other... if an animal don't like you, he ain't gonna work for you too easily.
Is it just me or are there not too many rabbits trained to do something?

I found I had some old black bananas yet didn't have the ingredients for banana bread, so I smooshed 'em up and mixed them in with my pancake batter. Mmmm!
-
We had pancakes this morning.
I used Alton Brown's recipe, then I add cinnamon, pecans, almonds, apples, dried cranberries (yes, really), and top them with fresh strawberries, butter and maple syrup.
Yum, yum, eat-em-up.

I'm sure he meant REAL pancakes... Not those things.

Whatever. They're still good with butter and syrup.

Personally, I like to mix 50/50 mix and oatmeal. Hides some fiber in the slathery goodness. Then there's the made right down the street over a wood fire maple syrup that we use here. Nothin' better anywhere else on the planet. .
-
Real maple syrup or that corn sweetener *expletive deleted*it they call maple syrup?
-
Me? Real syrup baby, the WIFE uses the diet fake syrup stuff. I keep asking her, "Do you want REAL maple syrup or TEST TUBE maple syrup?"
It's a miracle she ain't killed me yet.

This just seems to fit the topic give it a watch http://youtube.com/watch?v=DJ5DzhC9pa4 .

My wife loves pancakes. I'm really more of a waffle guy myself tho. And I gotta say I prefer the plain ones over the avant-garde berries and nuts and twigs whatever the hell else they put in em.
-
Balog, I've recently been informed of the sandwich qualities of the waffle.
I use two waffles in place of bread. It's especially good for PB&J.
Chris
-
Try your favorite ice cream in your waffle sandwich.
-
pork sausage patty and waffle sandwich is good too.
-
Mmmmmmmmmmm,,,sausage patty and waffle sandwich... [drool]
-
Dammit guys, I'm trying to lose some weight here.

"Dammit guys, I'm trying to lose some weight here."
[IHOP mind trick] These aren't the pancakes you're looking for. [/IHOP mind trick]
-
Waffle sandwich? Why have I never thought of this? Do you use the little store bought waffles or whip up some of your own for that?
-
I just use the store bought waffles.
Chris

OK, now youz guys done it!
We have bread dough in the machine (we prefer to bake it ourselves in the oven) and I'm hijacking half the batch for fritters...with the real maple syrup, thank you very much!
My wife also prefers the "Test tube" variety...I'll never figure that one out!
Waffle samiches....intriguing, hmmmmm.
On the topic of unusual samiches, I rally like potato chip samiches slathered with copious amounts of mayo. Ummmmm, good. Don't forget the pickles!
-
I have a Belgium waffle maker that produces waffles the size of a piece of bread.
I fry up patties made from bulk pork sausage. usually 1/4 lb each.
In my waffle mix I add some maple syrup to the batter, I just substitute some of the seltzer water with syrup.
assemble the pieces when done, you can add a slice of cheddar or colby cheese.
open mouth and enjoy
prepare for myocardial infarction

On the subject of odd sandwiches....
anyone ever try peanut butter, mayo, and banana? We had em all the time as a kid, but my wife thinks I'm crazy.

If you eat food like that, well, I do too.

Lovely, I paid $6.75 for this container of Sesame Chicken and rice. Please don't make it a waste of money.

My cholesterol is rising just reading this thread.

I'll mash up bananas wiht peanut butter and spread the goop on bread for a sammich. Or, I'll slather on some mayo and put sliced bananas on. I'm not sure I'd want all three together.
Chris

Peanut butter and banana.....ummmmm good.
My wife eats peanut butter, mayo and PICKLES! Now that is just gross!
-
I have this cook book somewhere called "The Muscular Gourmet"
One of the tips in there for healthier eating was to replace maple syrup
with honey over apple sauce.
It's actually pretty darned good on flapjacks.
-
The guy that sells me the maple syrup swears up and down that you won't get a cold if you take 2 warm tablespoons each morning. He didn't say it couldn't be on pancakes, or waffles...
I like it on oatmeal, but now I put the oatmeal in the pancakes, which is close enough for me.
-
I like real maple syrup, but I haven't any lately that's been the proper consistency. Much of it is this watery brown stuff that hasn't been boiled down to a proper syrup consistency.
I also like to use honey in place of maple syrup.
-
I still can't get used to maple syrup on anything. I grew up in South Africa, where golden syrup (made from sugarcane) was the syrup du jour. Lovely stuff! If you haven't tried it on pancakes, do so - I think you'll like it. Lovely thick gooey treacly goodness!

Oh my, that looks really good...
I bet I know just where to go to get some too. In Hartford anways...
I love the motto.
-
In the South (at least in Louisiana) it's all about cane syrup.
I still prefer real grade 'B' maple syrup. I get mine at Trader Joe's. I don't remember the name, but it looks like a wine bottle & runs about $8.
-
This morning, I had waffles with peanut butter smeared into the crannies. I then smothered them in real maple syrup.
A couple hours later, I went for a 35mile bike ride.

Get busy. Only thing missing is a hot cup of joe, or some
hot chocolate with a bit of whipped cream on top. Umm, umm, umm.
