10% is pretty dang high.  31% is astronomical.

Not doing any research at all on this, I am struck by the incidence in the Southern Pacific and the Middle East geographical groupings.  Is it genetics, diet, or both, I wonder.

Considering GB's reputation for bland an bleh food, I'm not surprised they're so far down the list.  I suspect the only sweets they consume are in tea and crumpets, and that only once a day.

If there's a state by state one, I'd then be curious on Hawaii. I guess it depends on the breakdown of Pacific Islander vs other demographics. Japan is very low, so that would also skew the state.

The article indicated there was some genetic resistance to insulin.  Not sure how much that affected it.

Daughter just called and said her BF's diabetic meds just jumped in priced from $300 a/month to $1,000. He's in a panic to say the least. Not sure what meds he's on but thought I would pass this along

As a guess I would have to go with both, much like the Native Americans once their diet changed from a healthy hunter/gatherer model to a more civilized diet of higher glucose and simple carbs.

I could swear I recently heard Joe Biden bragging about how he passed legislation to reduce the price of diabetic meds. (Or at least insulin - maybe other meds weren't included?)
