Trump the Clown Genius

Scott Adams aka "Dilbert" writes an excellent article on the Trumpster. I haven't finished Trumps Art of the Deal yet but I have to say it is a good read so far. I read a bit over half while out of town and haven't picked it up since I got home.

Quote
Like many of you, I have been entertained by the unstoppable clown car that is Donald Trump. On the surface, and several layers deep as well, Trump appears to be a narcissistic blow-hard with inadequate credentials to lead a country.

The only problem with my analysis is that there is an eerie consistency to his success so far. Is there a method to it? Is there some sort of system at work under the hood?

Probably yes. Allow me to describe some of the hypnosis and persuasion methods Mr. Trump has employed on you. (Most of you know I am a trained hypnotist and this topic is a hobby of mine.)

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

I've been following Scott's blog on this topic for a few months now, it's quite illuminating.

I didn't know that Scott Adams is a trained hypnotist. But I do know that I am a trained hypnotist, and his analysis is pretty much spot on.

Trump is a scumbag and not extremely competent as a businessman. He is however very good at manipulating people and selling his brand. He could have five times as much money as he currently has if he stuck his money in an S&P500 index fund and did zero for the rest of his business career. So, from the "making maximum amount of money", not very competent. He wants to sell himself as a sharp businessman and personality, and does so very successfully even if it doesn't make him nearly as much money. Dude has more than enough to live on, and past a billion it's really just playing for ego anyways so it does actually make sense. Rather than donate his surplus to fight malaria or whatnot, he'd rather engage in ego pleasing business deals that make far less money than competent investments. Becoming President would fit with that. He wants ego gratification and attention more than money or power. It's not as insane as it seems. Even a couple hundred million in the bank could let you live like royalty, so this is essentially his hobby.

And he's good at his hobby. Look at the folks who support him. If they looked up his previous behavior and held him to it, they'd be screaming that he was a commie pinko socialist. They're not. That's pretty good evidence of how good he really is at selling himself. It's kinda amazing, but moreso a comment on the American people.
"Rev, your picture is in my King James Bible, where Paul talks about "inventors of evil."  Yes, I know you'll take that as a compliment."  - Fistful, possibly highest compliment I've ever received.
