Well now, isn't THIS an interesting turn of events...
« on: October 30, 2005, 08:19:50 AM »
I gets an email over the weekend from a former coworker from the Bloodmines of Boulder, about this story that ran last week.

Quote
WESTMINSTER - Police arrested a man with an uncreative screen name who they say made plans in an online chat room to meet a "young girl."

Unfortunately for James Charles Stephens the "young girl" he met online was an undercover Westminster Detective posing as the girl.

Stephens was using the screen name Jim Stephens96.

He was arrested Thursday at 10:30 a.m. without incident and is being held at the Arapahoe County Jail on bond.

Police have not released details of the arrest.

Stephens faces charges of enticement of a child, criminal attempt to commit sexual assault on a child and obscenity.

Westminster Police remind parents to take the following measures to protect their children from online predators:
Monitor your children when they are on-line
Do not allow children to use computers behind closed doors
Use internet content blocking software

The tone of the email indicates that this sender has already judged Jim to be guilty, which is a shame since she'd always seemed so rational and clear headed when I worked with her.

The Bizzaro factor here is that Jim was our IT guy in the Bloodmines, and was my locker partner in High School.
I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

I certainly hope that he isn't guilty but I guess you'll have to wait for the investigation and trial to find out more.

I knew a guy who seemed absolutely harmless and he was regarded as an upstanding and was even known as a devout Christian.  Everyone was shocked when he got caught in a child pornography investigation but the police found mounds of evidence when they excuted a search warrant.  I'm not saying that your guy is guilty but from my own personal experience, I was pretty stunned that such a seemingly normal guy could have a secret life.

I hope that this is not the case with your friend and the investigation will exonerate him. Sad

LoL," said Bobby12. "My dad won't let me watch cable movies either."
"That sucks." Ponygirl92 replied, "I'd like to see some HBO! "
Bobby12 said BRB and got up for some coffee. He passed Ponygirl92, AKA Agent Westing, on the way to the bathroom.

One of my favorite high school teachers was sent to prison last year for molesting high school boys. He had been housing foreign exchange students for years and one came forward with a complaint and it turned out that 5 other former exchange students were contacted during the investigation and found to have been sexually molested. The guy was a bit effeminate, but noone ever expected this from him.
